Is this series worth it for single-player and story only?
I've always heard that the story of this series was cool. This game has single-player right?

Yes, it has singleplayer campaign. You can also play with friends for multiplayer online in the campaign. And yes it is worth it for story only if thats what you're looking for.

IMO very much yes, I played through 1,2 and 3 about 2 dozen times each when i was younger before i even had xbox live, and i buzzed through reach and 4 a bunch of times too.

Also coop too, if you want to play with your friends.

The story is pretty good, though lore gets a bit complicated because Bungie used the "Rule of Cool" when making lore for the series, so there are lore inconsistencies that are noticeable if you read the books too, though 343 has been trying to make the lore more consistent, though I would have to say that I think that the multiplayer is also very good and would recommend that you try it out along with the campaign.

The single player campaigns were amazing for the story. What really put it over the top was the hidden stuff, and occasional ways out of the maps that made it memorable for me and my buddies.

The original Trilogy had an incredibly engaging campaign, and 4 at the very least offered a potential conclusion to the story of Master Chief. The Multiplayer is loads of hours worth of fun.

Ok, thanks all.

simple answer Yes
The story is a typical shallow sci fi action which is all it needs to be because it has some bad ass characters. The actual gameplay is simple rinse and repeat which is also okay because it's bad ass.

Yes. Halo, first three entries especially, have some of the best cinematic campaigns. They are short (about 6-7 hours each game), but extremely well done and have excellent lore that inspired large following.

Singleplayer is neat and all,
but 2 player co-op is where the halo franchise shines brightest.
