Question about John Spartan
So this has been bugging me for a long time about Master Chief: there's mention that he's a bio-engineered cyborg and all, but what's the deal with the armor? Can he ever take it off, or is he built into the armor like Robocop?

The armor can be taken off, but it needs a special machine to do it if i'm remembering correctly.
Can be taken off, but has to be done with machine-assisted technicians due to how complicated it is, not to mention that it is directly connected to John's neural implant.

Like Iron Man's Armor in the first two movies and The Avengers. The end cutscene of Halo 4 shows the procedure and it looks pretty cool. Especially when you see how huge Chief is compared to normal humans.
Plus there's some tubes in unpleasant places to remove carefully

Oh yeah, that too, it was only mentioned in some books from what I remember though.
They have some visuals on this in Halo 4, but yes. It can be removed with heavy machinery
MJOLNIR armor can only be removed with special machinery, but he can definitely take it off, evidenced by Halo 4's ending.
"John Spartan"? This isnt Demolition Man.

I thought it was John Halo
I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything.
Mister Chief John Halo
Spartan Chief Halo John.
The Suit can be manually taken off with Assistance even without machinery and there are no tubes in unpleasant places.
The Cyborg part mostly is a joke
(I have read nearly every Halo book)

At least for Mark V and IV you'd need machinery.
There are tubes, at least in versions Mark VII and earlier, as seen in the Kilo Five Trilogy (I know, those books are horrible but they're still canon sadly).
Technically most UNSC soldiers are cyborgs, since they have neural implants. So does John and the other Spartans.
The chief was abducted as a little child (all Spartan IIs were 3-6 years old during abduction) and and choosen thanks to his genes.

These 150 children were put into extreme harsh training from then on.

When they were teenagers, they had to do a series of surgery to improve their bodies, like titan improved bones and stuff. 1/2 felt out (died or were crippled).

Then they got their armor. The armor was specially developed to improve humans combat powers, but normal marines and ODST soldiers broke their bones just by moving a single arm, as the powers of the armors were too much. The Spartan IIs could use them tho.

The Spartan IIs dont live permanent in the armor. It can be put on and put of via help of a machines and ususally is taken of while flying in slip space to the next place of battle. A waste removal system was not described in neither fall of reach or halseys diary.

There is also an emergency mode to remove the armor if needed, but thats painful, complicated, damages the armor and not recommended.
