Probably a dumb question.. Best way to record gameplay?
I've been out of the PC/Steam Loop for quite awhile... so.. any new way of game capture escapes me.. What's the best device for it? Do newer graphics cards have the capability built in? Decent software for it??

TIA for any advice on this.

I would probably recommend X Split. OBS is good too, but I just can't seem able to set it up right, and even if I do, I can record without stuttering on X split with no quality loss unlike OBS.

X split is the way to go, but if you prefer, Nvidia already has a built in recording program inside Nvidia Geforce program.
I think there's also one on AMD, but I'm not sure.

Or you can use XBOX DVR on Windows, but I wouldn't trust it

OBS, xSplit, StreamLabsOBS, GeForce Experience (If you have an Nvidia GPU), Bandicam (free or paid), Re-Live (AMD's version of GeForce Experience).

OBS all the way
Geforce is the easiest and least time consuming.
OBS is the best free version.
XSplit is a good premium one.
