Is this going to be an ALWAYS ONLINE game?
I can't play Gears 5 on Windows store because Xbox Live is currently down. So I checked on Gears 5 Steam Discussions to see how people liking the game so far and apparently they've been affected by this too. Players can't even get in the menu screen left alone playing the game offline.

I don't know what about you guys but this truly terrify me. Am I going to need constant internet connection and depends on Xbox Live to work probably just to play the Campaign??

You can play steam offline, but you still need to login. So, yes, basically. You will need internet to play.

Lol. If you dont have net to play in this day and age I feel sad for you. Hell, your posting so you have net. your fine. Even if it's just your phone you can hook it up to your computer and use its net. I did for a month when I moved and my net was getting set up

You could prob play it in offline mode. If you need to log into the xbox live account every time it may need net

I don't support online launch requirements for single player games. Period.

Got burned with GTA V, ROTTR and Doom. It made me angry when I couldn't play the game I had paid for, while all the pirates played offline with no problems, naturally.

Have fun being a chump and funding/proliferating/acquiescing to this BS practice. There are plenty of games I can buy which don't ♥♥♥♥ with us like this so...

heres the thing tho , if the companies are too incompetent to keep their servers running 24/7 , then their game shouldnt require them , i lost count how often i had issues with the square enix servers while playing just cause 3 , my internet is running , in fact , i almost always watch yt , anime or whatever while playing

one time while i played halo on xbox , suddenly i got kicked out of the game bc of server issues , and if i play the single player , i want to just play and not have issues with the servers

i have really good internet ,but like once every 2-4 months , sometimes even less frequent , it just goes out for like a night ( 2-5 AM ) bc of maintenance , what then ? ofc , if i play online, then i guess i get DCd but besides that , i can just wait until its back on in any game , thanks to steam not having a forced online only drm , even denuvo games worked during that time (sonic forces )

Quote taken from the June dev blog's community Q&A (unable to link directly to the blog post for some reason);

"Will MCC be an always-online game? Will I be required to have an internet connection to login and play specifically on Steam?

Specifically, to Steam – No. You will need to be able to sign-in to Xbox Live. As long as you can pop online from time-to-time to re-cache your login you should be okay."

The only things that are not clear are the frequency that a login will need to be "re-cached" and whether or not re-caching is mandatory for continued offline play.

everyone is online all the time. why should it matter. sure if you go on holidays it can get annoying, but as i said, if you dont need to log into live it should be playable offline

In fairness not everyone ALWAYS has the net, I was traveling on vacation last year and there was a few times I wanted to play Starcraft 2 and realized that so much of that game is tied to the web so I couldn't even do skirmish with bots or something. There's no good reason for DRM to require always online, "but you should have online anyway" isn't an excuse for that.

as i said above. thats like the 1 reason people wouldnt have the net. i also said to just use your phone net data for the times you need to log in

im not on the "always online" side. i like playing games even when i dont have the net. but i can also see there side, being everyone in this day and age has a way to connect to the net

Can you still play this when servers go down and the companies go under? I could still play Halo Combat Evolved even if the world around me imploded as long as I have something to power my PC.

No, not everyone is online all the time, and all online isn't created equal. There is an area in my town where the cable company just refuses to run a line, even though they have a line one street over. Every few years they send a guy door to door asking that people of that particular road to foot a multi thousand dollar (at least 50k) bill to give them cable and to internet access that isn't satellite. and if you've ever had the misfortune of being forced to use satellite internet it's like dial up. you can't even watch 1 10 minute 480p youtube video without it buffering for 20 minutes through the whole thing. Also take into account that the majority of places (in the US) have exactly one choice for cable/internet service providers. So if yours happens to suck your out of luck.

"It doesn't happen to me so it's not a problem." isn't a good way to go through life. There is no benefit to have always online for the single player portion of a game. Including it only hurts some people.

Yeah well thinking everything is meant for everyone is also not a good way to go through life.
If they don't have the qualifications to make the product work than it's not for them.

I would assume that the game would work offline. Unless one was playing with another player / players on another computer.
