It's due to "dial up combo system". You need to perfectly click the proper buttons to land the combos otherwise it won't work. It's definitely playable but you need some practice. I had problem with this aswell but after few hours in practice mode I was fine.
I mean You won't get away with smashing buttons and You have to be very accurate at timimg , there's no easy combo modes like the modern controls in SF6 or whatever it called in Tekken 8 so it might not be as welcoming as them for a new player
If You really want to invest on this and learn properly I suggest learning short and easier combos piece by piece then how to connect them together using special cancels for learning the timing
Also different characters have different learning curve so be picky when it comes to choosing your main for starting , I personally think Sub-zero , Jade and Joker are easier to learn in general and beginner friendly
Street fighter 6 is the best new fighting game right now ?
