Feel free to provide evidence to the contrary, you can't tho because it's all true.
Just take a look at what became of Injustice and Mortal Kombat. Games are pretty much mobile titles with all the anti-consumer mechanics such as INSANE grinding, lootboxes and microtransactions.
Japanese fighting games, however, tend to be the other way around (unless you're called Tecmo or Capcom for they also offer abusive anti-consumer mechanics).
But yeah. I'd love if Netherrealm ditched the block button in favor of stick/d-pad away from the opponent. Would be a really welcome addition.
Would be nice if you could skip fatalities and/or super attacks, too, for they drag on for way too long.
And about netcode, clearly you haven't heard about the Rollback feature.
22) The controls in MK11 are awful. Unwanted Breakaway are commonplace, as is using a stage interaction when one wanted to Amplify a move.
23) Custom Variations ended up being a joke. Most characters are complete garbage without certain loadouts, or at least certain moves equipped. Several characters basically can't even do combos without specific moves equipped and/or KBs.
24) Krushing Blow is a terrible mechanic that only exacerbates the poor balance of the game. Certain characters have a bunch of Fisher Price easy KBs, while others have KBs so bad that one would need to shove a rabbit's foot up their nose to land one.
25) Visual language sucks, as there are plenty of moves that target a different hitzone than they should, based on appearance.
26) Strings can drop midway through randomly.
27) Hidden Cursor is worse than ever, as one still cannot see their own cursor AND they might pick the wrong Custom Variation.
28) Kombat League rank decay is player hostile, as some people cannot find time to play everyday due to work, school, leaving town, etc.
29) MK11 has way too many wake-up options
30) Throws being 50/50 to tech makes the old SF joke of "take the throw" real, as it'd be better to just eat 13% damage, as opposed to trying to tech and eating 30% or more.
31) Labbing is boring as hell in MK11 due to how limited most of the characters are, especially with the Variation limitations described in #23.
32) Neutral is a joke due to how commonplace teleports are, projectiles not clashing, overly long normals for some characters, etc.
33) Frame data is often deceptive, as many strings that are supposed to be unsafe, actually are often safe due to massive pushback. Heck, some strings that can only be used on hit have block data for some reason (e.g. Kollector's b1,2,2 string).
34) The poking in this game is trash (mostly d1 or d3)
35) Meter management takes very little thought, as meter regenerates too fast.
36) Fatal Blow is really scrubby as is, it should be one attempt and gone for the rest of the match, no matter if it landed, was blocked, or the user whiffed
37) The WiFi indicator in Kombat League is virtually useless, since one cannot decline unless the ping is over 150ms (should be 100ms)
Agreed 100%
Some great additions there Tropica Jones
That aways online feature must seriously stop for if the servers eventually shut down all the crap that you worked your ass for will be gone forever. Should've put that in the previous post but forgot to do so.
All this time u waste here you could have been buying CAPCOM full-price-or-more-than-full-price Early Access SFs or DLC microtransactions or grinding for fight points to gamble away or take a few cents off some CAPCOM DLC microtransactions. How much had all the day-1 buyers paid for SFV by the time CAPCOM had completed it with the last major addition that they then sold to latecomers at a bargain? Is it over $400 by now?
y u beat on MK for lootboxes? It doesn't even have legit lootboxes. SFV did lootboxes.
17) Updating old paid for titles with useless ingame ads for new titles
How can you cite this with a straight backspace? CAPCOM plastered ads directly on the characters in a ♥♥♥♥ move that not even EA can match with what it has done.
bitchass SF shill
engine is unresponsive trash, visuals are terrible - half of the roster looks like someone hit "randomize" on the character creation screen and got a dozen of forgettable looks, while distinctive features of the popular characters are being washed out.
they do indeed look like they were created to be mobile native by an indie developer
LMFAO NRS titles cost more than Capcom
And you get a crappy support and it's dead in 1 year while they abandon the game with 0 long term support.
MK is NOT a real fighting game.
1. 0 Depth
Opinion. Since so much of fighting games is found in "Yomi" or mind games, it will have as much depth as your opponent is willing to offer.
2. Animation
They really aren't better or worse than SF. Even SF6 has had criticism for its animations.
3. Censorship
Caught me out here since I'm not too familiar with MK. Please elaborate.
4. Wokeness
Can't be helped when you are comparing a company based in Chicago vs. a company based in Japan. Of course they are going to fall in line with modern U.S. trends.
5. Loot Boxes
Counterpoint. SFV has what is basically a gacha system. Prior to CE, this was the only way to get a fair few costumes.
6. Limited content stages
No idea what this means. Please elaborate.
7. Laggy character select
If you are describing the time used to load character models on character select, fair point. Otherwise it's your hardware.
8. 0 support long term
Between Aftermath and Ultimate and a couple of character packs, I'd say it had support. Not as much as SFV, but SFV's content roadmap was (and to a degree, still is) the exception rather than the norm.
9. Worst PC Port
Counterpoint. ArcSystemWorks exist. Their ports are notoriously bad for PC.
10. No Crossplay for PC
A complaint that can be levied against multiple fighting games. Not to mention that dealing with Microsoft and Sony is probably a pain in the ass for stuff like Crossplay.
11. Block Button
How does this discriminate against fight sticks? MK has used a block button since MK1, which was developed for arcades. Otherwise, personal preference.
12. Ugly models in Injustice
Irrelevant. We are talking about MK11.
13. Locking costumes
SFV used to do this with their fighting chance and gacha-like system. MK11 is at least trying to use this stuff to reward ranked play, and bolster single-player content.
14. Limited edition skins
Not an MK11 exclusive issue, but I agree that it is unfortunate.
15. Dial-a-combo
A personal preference argument. Tekken still uses strings which are basically a Dial-A-Combo system, and I've seen very few arguments for it being bad in Tekken.
16. 1 Year abandonment after release
Can't really argue against this as I didn't play much MK during that period.
17. Ads in older titles
SFV is advertising SF6 on loading screens, and the main menu.
18. Ad updates breaking older titles
Elaborate.
19. Long cinematic moves
A legitimate complaint actually, though I'd argue this is more an issue with how readily available the cinematic moves are.
20. Guest character argument
The fun thing about guest characters is that they change every game.
Also people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hated Alien, since it was top tier for a spell.
21. High level footage
Looking in the wrong places probably. Look up tournament footage or the names of top players. That'll lead you in the right direction.
Does MK11 have issues? Yes! Every fighting game does! This creates the phenomenon we like to call "Player Preference". Don't like it? Great! Just don't go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on everything you don't like. Not every FG needs to be street fighter.
Not sure why you are doing mental gymnastics on some of these "points" here, especially when you said yourself you are not familiar with MK, but a lot of this is not a matter of opinion, it is objective truth.
0 depth: This is true across the board, even just comparing to other games in it's own franchise, it has the most braindead, mash rewarding, poke-heavy gameplay in NRS' history, you are free to like it, obviously, but factually speaking there is zero depth to it. Mechanically speaking it is worse than every other MK for definite and in a broader spectrum arguably one of the worst fighting games ever created in terms of mechanics:
-Most unbalanced roster in video gaming history(when was the last time you saw anyone use rain, sonya, mileena, jax, cassie, baraka, there are 37 characters on the roster, 34 of which you will never ever see, there's a reason for that),
- air skills are retarded meanwhile anti-airs across the board are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥,
-hit boxes so poorly designed they make ps1 era games look like the pinnacle of game development
- neutral essentially doesn't exist
- pokes are not a tool, they are a mandatory and constant thing you will spend more time on your knees than standing
- breakaway is a poorly thought out, poorly designed, poorly implemented, poor mechanic
-fb comes out accidentally far too often
- scrub's mix up which is factually unreactable online
-Scrubs f4 is a mid attack that inexplicably connects with characters in the air and behind him, similar story to noobs fb, a portal in the floor somehow extends airborne characters hitboxes the entire height of the screen and connects
-Pick one of the top characters put the controller in the hands of someone having an epileptic seizure and the game is so irrefutably unbalanced that that character would still walk the rest of the roster
- kabals stupid air throw thing not only negates a shot from robo's 50cal but goes straight through it, apparently kabal throws a clump of metal with enough force to nullify the existence of a 50 cal round in his face
- liu kangs 1,2,3 proves the quoted frame data numbers to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
- hell even the tutorials are proof of how little effort NRS put in and how there was literally zero testing done on this game, they had to nerf the tutorials because the timing for flawless blocks was so fundamentally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that less than 1% of people were able to consistently nail it.
The best word to describe MK11 is unfinished and it shows. I know i'm on a bit of a tangent here, but may as well throw in the fact that pc is the only platform without voice chat. The most powerful of all devices for no justifiable reason doesnt have chat, which not least of all make KoTH on pc about as much fun as a root canal without anaesthetic
0 support: This is also true. Before release NRS ran their collective mouth a lot, boasting of plans to support the game for a long time, but what did we actually get? A handful of "patches" which did not address any of the bugs or performance issues, nerfed already weak characters (sonya, raiden) while the top3 have been the top 3 since day 1 to present because they are literal carries. And a few dlc, which include the worst guest characters to date, the p2w joker who makes no sense to be in the game as he doesnt even fit the theme of action heroes and a few returning characters who have had so little put into them that playing with them is essentially handicapping yourself. Not to mention the servers on pc are piss, down more than they are up and if you get a single match without disconnections or severe lag spikes it's a very rare occasion.
No crossplay: This is valid, doesn't matter if the same can be said of other games, that doesn't justify it here, it is still a fair point. A game that requires a permanent internet connection and whose play time depends 100% on having an online playerbase, releasing the game on all platforms but crippling one so that it can never access over 95% of players is retarded, there's no other word for it. Which in turn is proof how little effort NRS put into 11 because technically PC can crossplay, the game pass/microsoft store version plays on pc and has crossplay, for no reason, other than laziness, they decided that the steam version will be exclusively for people who want to play the same handful of russians and never anyone else.
"dial-a-combo": Again, you are entitled to your opinion, but that does not override or disprove what op said. Tekken and mk are vastly different games, because a specific mechanic might work well in tekken doesn't mean it is a good choice for mk.
Guest character argument: I already mentioned this above, but the guests are the worst they have ever been, there's a reason the only one you ever see being used is joker. MKX (like all fighting games) didn't have different but equal characters sure, but the guests, through the game's entire life cycle remained some of the most popular and played. In 11 we have people using joker because he is cheap and easy and a few people like foxy and sooneo using robocop to annoy people, but in general the guests in 11 are so crap and get used so little they may as well not be in the game.
Two things I would add that desperately fixed in 12, predicted odds in kasual this ♥♥♥♥ needs to go. This serves literally no purpose, benefits nobody and the only thing it accomplishes is making fragile people run away from fights that don't matter in the first place. if you find someone and the connection is decent, there's no reason to run away, but a sizeable portion of pc players run for the hills if the odds arent 99% in their favour
Also change the way the rejection works in kl matches, being forced to play against people when the connection between us is so bad it's a guaranteed disconnect before even starting is just dumb
Of course preference exists and I certainly don't agree with everything op said, but i'm not really sure what the point of your post is. You give your opinion on critiques that you personally disagree with, while inferring the op is wrong for sharing their opinion and end with "Just don't go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on everything you don't like" which in itself makes no sense. If you buy something you are fully in your rights to share your thoughts and in this case the post isn't detailed but he hasnt just said "MK11 is ♥♥♥♥", he has listed mostly valid critiques of how it falls short.
Regardless, preference exists, ofcourse it does and it's impossible to please 100% of people 100% of the time, that's how the world is, but the few things I have touched on above are not a matter of opinion, they are fair and objectively true criticisms.
If you are off your meds, please get back. I think you must have come on at season 5 or Champion because you seemingly have no idea about the endless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of ♥♥♥♥ moves, passes, and mtx since 2016.
SFV did lootboxes, SFV plastered ads directly on the characters, SFV installed a rootkit on people's systems, SFV created an in-game currency to exploit mtx and then nerfed the farming mechanism against players because people were using it. SFV was basically a CAPCOM hold my beer statement to EA.
MK is not a fighting game like the others, this is true. It's also the only mainstream fighting game. Casual SF players haven't really played since Arcades. Other than MK, pretty much Tekken is the only game in the genre which could theoretically go mainstream with what it is right now. MK has a set of conditions on its development that all other fighting games don't really concern themselves with.
Attack the things wrong with MK sure, but don't trash it because of how some things look when you put it against SF, which by this point in 2023 is basically a different game. It's like ARMA vs. COD, Battlefront vs. CSGO, TF2 vs. DOOM. Especially when that thing you're comparing it to is SF which should be ♥♥♥♥ on as a videogame at this point after SFV.
NRS needs to stop juggling so many identities and get good at the Fighting Game or the Action-Adventure or the Open-world or whatever it is they're doing before Ed Boon's pragmatism and pop-culture skill isn't enough to bring off the mix, and they release a mid MK, which they might have actually already done with MK11, and they get ♥♥♥♥ on from all sides for it.
