Also, I suck online, so losing so much points all the time isn't a great incentive to play. I don't mind winners getting more points, but punishing losers is just a ♥♥♥♥ move, really.
On this season (especially on these days) game gives me more lower rank players than my own rank. I mostly don't bother fighting or even losing low rank players if this was happens rarely. But last couple of days i'm mostly fighting "high risk, low reward" matches in KL and sometimes this makes me nervous. It also feels like i'm only player in my rank. (Today i ranked up to "Grandmaster")
They need to let you decline people of lower rank than you and filter out WiFi users, unless they rework the entire point system.
This discussion is constantly mirrored on GameFAQs for PS4, they are as sick of this as the PC crowd.
NRS needs to listen.
I don't even care so much for the points, but I want a system that pairs me up with people where the odds are between 60-40 range and where the points are linked to the perceived skill of the player instead of a rank they have gained during a fairly short season.
If you play 300 sets, and watch players with better win odds than you that beat you, maybe they belong in a rank above you and you belong in the rank you can't get out of. Had you played 30 matches it could be bad luck, but 300...?
Something tells me you belong in Master. Which is completely fine, nothing wrong with Master. Doesn't matter if you lose because you don't use the best or most cheap characters in the game or because your reaction's aren't great or you don't know your frames and the opponents but the fact remains; you can't get out of Master. Be fine with Master, as it is fine.
You would be Grand Master if you could beat Grand Master players more than they beat you. And so on.
I'm always stuck around Demi God. Yesterday I played for hours to get just 400 points. I was 10 pts away to rank Demi. Then I got matched with 3 low ranks in a row and they beat me. I lost 300 points in 15minutes. 3 quick games destroyed hours of work.
So I belong at or around Demi God. Not God, not Elder God. I'm simply not good enough to get there, but others are.
But thats not true. I reached grandmaster every season. Not the easiest but got there. But when I am watching various players on the leaderboards and their replays. Is clear some lower lvl players have much easier matchups. I wish I had those matchups. The other day my matchups were:
Opponent1: 1% win odds, Jax
Opponent2: 5% win odds, Shao kahn, Scorpion
Opponent3: 50% win odds on 7 win streak
Opponent4: 40% win odds on 5 win streak
Opponent5: 1% win odds, Jax
Opponent6: 1% in odds, Scorpion
Not to be rude but I must say whoever decided the ranking system should be like this is either a complete imbecile or a sadistic moron. Losing points for getting beaten in sets is frustrating and can be very demoralising, especially when the system is so broken that many hours and days of hard work can be undone by a few ridiculous match ups. God forbid you get busy with real life or the thing you play the game on malfunctions for more than 3 days, because point decay will punish you for it, as if getting punished for playing wasn't enough. The system is intentionally designed to be frustrating I suspect.
So... because someone has a higher rank than you they are "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sweaty ♥♥♥♥♥ who live in their mum's basement" ....?
Interesting logic.
There are player tiers but no character tiers in MK11. Character tiers is a myth repeated until it has become a "fact", when in reality the only difference between characters is fighting style. The deciding factor in who wins and who doesn't is player skill and experience, nothing more.
Back to the main point, the idea behind the ranking system in KL is not fair at all actually, and for more than one reason. For example, rank reset after every season introduces the problem of extremely skilled players who reached god ranks in the previous season getting matched up with people of much lower rank/skill at the beginning of the next season, not to mention the late-starters who will deplete your progression bar. Or consider how the broken matchmaking can throw together two people separated by several ranks in a match they sometimes can't even decline. But I think the biggest issue here is point loss. You should never be punished for losing, and you should never be punished as unfairly as this system often does. You are already grinding for rewards for your favourite characters, so adding this "competitive" rubbish on top of it is very unwarranted. If they really want to have their league the way it currently is, at least they shouldn't lock away in it essential rewards like skins and gear, which are things I have the right to have access to without having to be extremely skilled. After all I paid for the game and should gain access to its main content without being a pro.
The idea of KL matching up to only people at your level makes sense. The prizes also makes sense otherwise everyone would not compete and play kasual. The issue here is the late joiners that are lvl100 that shouldn't be treated like an apprentice. The KL point systems need to take in account the level and win odds. Both are just ignored.
