D-Pad or Joystick on Xbox controller?
Which one are you using?

Since its an Xbox controller, i am inclined to use the joystick, since its position fits more into my grab, but i have experienced that the d-pad is much more precise, yet weird to use. The fact that the game also shows the d-pad lighting up in the tutorial modes when i use the joystick lets me believe, that the d-pad should be used for this game.

So, is it possible to use the joystick properly or is the d-pad significantly superior, that a adaptation to d-pad is worthwhile?

d-pad is superior. I'm joystick player for a year then force myself to use d-pad. Now i keep on thinking why did i use joystick in the first place for fighting game? Stupid me.
D-pad tends to be better for precise inputs that are required by fighting games. I'd say it's worthwhile to adapt -- it shouldn't take long and it's well worth it.
Yeah, thats what i thought. I tried adapting to the Xbox d-pad, but its just too weird. I guess i will buy myself a ps4 controller for it.
you have to use what you are comfortable with, it is perfectly acceptable to play with the analogue stick. Its about results, if you can do everything you need to do with the analogue without input errors then what's the purpose in switching?

Well, i main Cassy and she has a few special moves that require both horizontal directions and i am not able to properly execute those special moves in a combo with joystick. It can be done, but not consecutively.

so just a tip from someone who has played on a lot of different controllers, xbox 360, ps4, no name brands and 3 different fightsticks. You'll have those same issues on the ps4 pad, the way the dpad works its very easy to get accidental presses. It all comes down to practice. If you want a new controller then buy one, but you shouldn't convince yourself that it'll solve your input errors, that comes from practice not new controllers.
Hmm, are you sure? I know that the D-Pad on my current controller is more precise and i can do the inputs much more consistently, but the placement of the pad is just weird.

I also have seen other posts about this topic and the vast majority is saying that D-Pad is vastly superior. The fact that the players on the MK 11 Tournament last year were all using a ps4 controller lets me believe, that there is more to it than just practice.

PS4 is the standard for tournaments, all the stations at tournaments are ps4's. Its just easier to use ps4 pads because you don't need to convert it with a dongle or whatever. It helps that the ds4 is an excellent pad. Like i said if you want to buy one go ahead. Just don't delude yourself that your excecution problems will go away when you pick it up.
Nah, i wouldnt delude myself with that. Its not like a new controller would make me a better player. But it seems it would make the inputs more consistent.

it could depending how stiff the dpad is, mine is pretty stiff so i need to practice a lot to get consistant. Maybe you are lucky and your plastic is a little softer.
DPAD. Always. Buuuut... since I tried DualShock4, specially to play MK11, I can tell how inaccurate XBOX controller is. DS4 dpad has four independent buttons, turning "left/right" and "down/up" moves extremely easier.

it is not 4 indepandant buttons, it is one piece of stiff plastic in a cross shape, sure it is better than a circle shape i guess, but it still has the same problems.

I understand your point, but I can tell (as user of both controllers) that isolating directions can bring you another level of accuracy. Not same problems. I assure you.
Better DS4 controller.
