Mortal Kombat 11
Experiment: do you remember any single sound effect or song from the game?
I take it everyone here has been playing MK11 for a while now.
Now, here's the thing: can you recall in your mind a single song from the game? Perhaps any special move that has a sound you can describe? One that you really remember?

I sure don't, and I certainly remember all of the music and probably every sound effect in MK1 to MK3.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the game, but I find it really sad how generic and monumentally uninspired the sound design in Mortal Kombat has become.
Now every single projectile makes an indistinct "pew", "woosh" or "zing" sound, and they could mix them all up and nobody would notice.

Want to see it for yourself?
See if you can tell apart the sound of Johnny Cage's green fireball from Raiden's lightning.
Just check out the sound of Liu Kang's fireball.

Dude, I never even noticed this, but you are absolutely right. Maybe its lost on me because not just the sound, but literally everything about this game's design is generic and not unique at all.

Characters, sounds, costume designs, stages, all of it.

I literally don't care about picking a stage to fight in because they all look the same to me.

I honestly dont even notice the music.
It's just background. Not the slightest presence.
I forgot to mention the Fatality fanfare.
"DUM! DUM DU DU DU DUM!"
Seriously?

LOL. That would sure be fun.
I don't have any video editing tools handy though.

I do. I remember a song with violin after Fatality. Its epic. Well remembered. But yes, its the only one.
I just reached a new level of cringe when I noticed that even Geras' punch and kick during his fatality have these low-pitched "pew, pew" sounds that are everywhere in MK11.
I'll pay whoever makes a mod that removes those.
Hell, if anyone has any pointers, I'll take the task onto myself.

Pretty sweet selection. Love all the music in MK1-3.
That said, MK in my mind is this.

ok so the genesis soundtrack had some incredible bangers but none like the Warrior Shrine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7_H50GFkAM

The Pit had a killer bass groove to it too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gkbkih0qh4
Hm. You kinda lost me there. LOL
The Genesis' music chip was just not up to it.
Also, they didn't even try to reproduce the songs in the original game.

Are we talking about the game most of us just started playing this past week and you want us to compare it to our memories of the original MKs, the ones that had a years time out in the Arcades ahead of console launch?

This is a weird thread, or I'm not understanding your question.
The point is that the current games' music is indistinct background whine that you don't even notice, let alone remember. You don't remember it now, less so 20 years from now.

Also, the sound effects are completely indistinct too. You just couldn't close your eyes and tell ANY of the specials from their sound because the game has about 3 different sound effects with small variations.

what are you talking about? they had arcade tracks: Warrior's Shrine is a cover of the arcade's Temple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op_Zt99bZK8

And then there's this classic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9smaFtW7CM

From the movies - yup. From the games - surely no. Speaking about music only.
Music from MK11 is noninvasive.
It has no words so it is hard to memorize and repeat it but it sounds good and is recognizable.
I can also recognize few sounds of frireballs and even normals.

I'm sure it became harder/impossible to recognize what happens and who happens to be on the screen just from single sound because there is too much characters and moves for all of them to get unique, recognizable and making sense sound.

I have to disagree. Get someone to go into practice mode, choose a random character and perform as many special moves as they want in otherwise complete silence and see if you can tell without watching.
