It`s not stupid that you can`t use custom variations. It`s the opposite. The harsh reality is that many players are bad. As rude as it sounds, without crutches they are not a challenge at minimum and nothing at worst. Sub`s slide is a crutch. Not trying to generalize, there are good people who do that, but all bad ones use same set. Slide, ice ball, air axe. Try to freeze your opponent, use amplified (?) slide and throw axes here and there.
I won as Shang Tsung without much problems in KL and thank Elder God his easy ninja moves are not in tournament variations. He`s fine as it is. Feels more like Shang Tsung and zoner without them. Ermac`s special makes me feel like playing MKX or earlier MK games again and not in a good way. Reptile`s slide if not better, then equal of Sub`s slide.
If you are not using specific character just because his tournament variation doesn`t have specials you want, then the problem is on your side. Friendly advice will be to improve your "skills".
Thin Ice is cool too, it's just more tactical and setup friendly. Just because Subby was brainded on lower levels in MKX with his corner pressure it doesn't mean that MK11 Subby is ♥♥♥♥, you just have to think more.
I wish people would stop making this comparison. You can’t compare scrub level play with pro level play.
We are all scrubs here playing with various levels of input lag and online lag.
Pros are pros. And they sit next to each other with no lag.
The problem with fighting games in general is that they need two balances, one for pro level and one for scrub level. They have different requirements. What’s good for pros is not good for scrubs and vice versa.
That’s why “balance” is an eternal problem. Go to any fighting game forum and people are having the same conversations, just change the character names.
Take fatal blow for instance. The sole purpose is to create “hype” moments for esports. Same as rage art in tekken. Online they are just annoying.
*this isn’t aimed at you dude, just more in general
Sonya > Scorpion
Jade > Sub-Zero
Kano > Sonya & Jade
Geras > Kano
Yes there are other broke chars... Geras, Erron black and whatever but this boring FreetoWinChar is a class for its own. I play both variations of my char but I can totally ♥♥♥♥ on the zoning variaton because im busy waiting and blocking his unsafe moves and trying to interrupt.
smh
But what if my startup is 20x slower?
This is no high quality fighting and I wont try something risky, because it can all end here if I mess up 2-3 times.
Stay out of kombat league/ranked and stick to kasual if you're just going to rage quit after a round. It's your skill level that's the issue. If you want a "I'm a winner too participation trophy" at the end of every match, go join a youth minor league baseball team.
Noob, Geras, Sonya, or Erron are way worse than even a Reborn Scorpion lmao 😂 but yeah teleport with the same easy to read combos is the issue right?
This game has a defensive meter btw! Even an offensive one! You should look at it from time to time since youre looking at the screen anyways!
Sure, some of his strings are punishable, the teleport is punishable etc... but you can't expect new players to be aware of that. It really comes down to how game balance is supposed to work well enough both on the lowest and higher levels. On the newbie level Scorpion is a cheese factory, there's no question about that and even when you're aware of what you're supposed to be doing things can get dicey when Kombat League decides that you have to play with a dude from Azerbaijan who has a bad PC and a wifi connection.
And really if you make a game that's based around neutral you really shouldn't have a character in the game that has the sole purpose of nullifying neutral play. If you do that you just give a get out of jail free card for people who are bad at neutral and don't want to learn. And I say this as someone who's absolutely not a natural when it comes to playing neutral (basically I picked up Shang because he seems to be centered around whiff punishing so he's a good learning tool for me for neutral).
I don’t see how the game is supposed about neutral. Most chars have a teleport or a fast sliding move. Projectiles are so slow that they are only easily thrown out full screen. So to me the game seems like keep away or all in. The only chars who seem to benefit from ‘neutral’ are ones with low starters.
