Act of War: High Treason

Act of War: High Treason

The "I can't get this game to work" thread.
The old thread seems to have been deleted, so here's a common place to talk about the issue that many were having. A .dll fix was posted but I don't remember it. If someone could post it here that would be awesome.****EDIT**** The following fix was found, however, IT MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE. There are many great suggestions in this thread and one of them may work for you.

Here is the updated solution to fixing the game.

First of all, download a file from here (all credit goes to tomsons26)
http://www.moddb.com/downloads/proper-windows-7-fix-for-act-of-war

****But here's the thing, the guide is somewhat misleading so do not follow the guide there, instead, do this :
Ignore the EugLoadingBar the guide told you to, set only the ActofWar.exe in Vista SP1 compatibility mode
Apply the dll you downloaded from there.

Then you should be able to run the game, HOWEVER -> some people may experience another error caused by the "Run as Admin?", if this happens to you, try unchecking the "run as administrator" box in ActofWar.exe, if it still doesn't work you will have to try fiddle around with your Windows Security options, If you can get rid of the question box, the game WILL guarantee to run trust me.

Please spread this info to your friends as well if they can't get the game running, they need to know this, hopefully with this thread it can be more visible to you people.

Darn, was just about to buy the game if (even though I've bought it once before, gamefly doesn't have it to download ATM) I could be guarenteed it would work on steam with Windows 7, was a pain just to get it working on Vista :P

Thanks! I also couldn't get past the intro screen, but it seemed to work for a few people, which is why I wanted someone to post it. There was a poster who managed to delete the intro videos which seems to cause the crash, and that worked for him.

I heard recently that Atari files for bankruptcy. If only Eugen Systems (developer of AoW) and Focus Home Interactive (publisher of Wargame which is developed by Eugen) buys the Act of War series, we could probabily expect a huge patch for both Act of War Direct Action and High Treason and an Act of War 2.

Here is the Wargame forum post: http://www.wargame-ee.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=24404
If anyone figures out how to get rid of the intros let me know, dieing to play this game, and of course, I woulnd't have gotten it knowing it just WOULNDN'T work... I also highly doubt the buy out, so no patch in sight, and if they did, I pray that AoW2 didn't end up like RUSE or Wargame, TBH

This game seems can't work in Win7 64X with Intel CPU.

I read on a german forum it has to do with the tages (copy protection) drivers not having support voor 64 bit.

http://www.aowhq.de/index.php?go=downloads&dl_id=109
This is a manual update for these drivers (not included in game patches). (Install instructions included in the rar)

Try if it works :)

(no need for the .dll file)

Already tried it and no dice.

I'm running both games right now on w7 64 bit. I used a combination of the .dll (found link in above post) and the updated tages drivers (in my own post).

1. Install tages drivers
2. Copy the .dll to BOTH the aow and aow:ht folders
3 set compatibility mode for BOTH games to VISTA (not servicepacks, just vista)

I then launched aow and got a bunch of error messages and clicked on okay, dissappointed, but behold... the game started up fine :P

Enyoing the classics once more!

Btw. DON'T patch your game to 1.06. It will stop working then.
(crash on intro movies). The default steam version is 1.0. Keep it that way

Which file removes the patch? Didn't see anything obvious.

My Act of War HT says 1.1.7 and is default steam ver.. so I'm confused about the default steam ver being 1.0?

Also I find deleting the folder /zz/ (shader cache) makes the game work if it crashs on the intro.
