Metal Slug 2 - better, wackier BUT have some lag when hardware could not handle all the fun.
Metal Slug X - remake of MS2, recolored stages, cutted out "muslim" enemies no more lag.
Metal Slug 3 - best game in the series, have a lot of fun stuff and branching paths, best pixelart.
Metal Slug 4 - dark era of MS, not the "worst" but have some atrocious cycling backgrounds and
Metal Slug 5 - and content rehashes. Has 2 characters tht no one sadly liked.
Metal Slug 6 - GENERALLY good game for DS BUT has fugly compressed graphics.
Metal Slug 7 - "compressed graphics"
Metal Slug XX - remake of MS7 REDRAWN and DECOMPRESSED graphics. Generally good game, but falls flat in several aspects (game is BROWN, no WACKY stuff and really different stages, backgrounds in 3d do not work).
There are also:
1. Gameboy advance games that nobody cares about.
2. NeoGeo pocket "enjoy your 8 colors background" games.
3. 3D game that was very experimental and did not catch on.
4. That mobile game that somehow on steam, and actually have WEEKLY updates in japan.
5. That Kraut*something* game made by fans on NeoGeo hardware and sold on cartriges for Neo-Geo console, that nodoby have and you won't be able to play anyway.
6. That Metal Slug CLONE witch magic and hookers for chinese-korean arcade hardware that you can find and play on emulators but its still not as good as MS3.
I don't know what kind of Metal Slug X did you play but the Arabian soldiers do appear in the second half of Mission 1 (right before blowing up the building with the mars people) until the first leg of Mission 2. They don't cut the enemy entirely.
MSX not only remade the settings for the stages, they introduced new enemies for Mission 2, remixed music (compare Judgement between 2 and X) and most of all, the new announcer for X to 5 we all know and love.
