Dragon event to extreme?

Tried this game for the first time. On turn 30 something I got an event to steal gold from a dragon. I got 3 options. Option 1 was to steal 200 gold. Option 2 was to steal 600 gold. This option came with a warning. Option 3 was to not steal anything.
Being new I went with option 1. A few turns later the dragon spawned. It destroyed my whole army, killed all my heroes and I only managed to get it to down to 9,2k health. I pretty much just quit the game at that point.
My question is - does this event need to be dialed down? It is very unfriendly for newcomers such as my self. I expected "some" consequences, but not an "end my game" shattering event.

I know for sure the next game I play I won't chose any risky options ever again at least. If that is the desired outcome of the dragon event then I guess it's working as intended =p

My question is, if I choose the 3rd option (not steal anything), is the AI stealing the money? Then these dragons are still in the game.

Which option disables these monsters?

You could always edit the Dragon stats to make them a little easier to...deal with.

Don't teal anything in the beginning , at least wait until your hero strong enough, then you chose the third and kill the dragon , legend equipment is yours.........

I went with stealing the 200 gold, the dragon spawned killed a few of my guys, and then moved south to lands held by the computer players. Hilarious.
