How do you redeem key codes?

Im new to the whole 'steam' thing and Magic: The Gathering series and I just recentley bought a couple of dlc's(deck to be specific) from steam... the ones i bought where along the lines of '' radadada *key code* radada'' and when i bought them steam said that it would install it automatically in game but when i checked nothings different and it doesnt seem like i got any new cards at all... can someone help me?

If you buy from Steam you don't need to redeem codes. That should only be if you buy something elsewhere that redeems on Steam. Once in a while a game will ask you for the CD-Key in Game but that isn't the case here.

You can see what DLC you own for a particular game if you go into the Steam client, then up near the top left it should say "Library". Click on that and locate your game on the list then right click the game and select "properties". You should see a DLC tab with a list of all (if any) DLC you own for that particular game.
