Nicol Bolas, final campaign duel
Is his a legal deck?

I'm going against him with Chandra's deck, and I'll admit that I'm a Magic newb, but it just seems to dominate mine. If I put out weak creatures, he makes me sacrifice them. If I put out tough creatures, he takes control of them. If I put out no creatures, trying to put out enough to survive a single round of sacrifices, I don't have enough out to handle his 6/6 card that spawns 2 2/2 cards each turn. If I store up magic to combat that, he either forces me to discard them or casts my own cards against me at no cost.

I'm sure I'll get it with practice, it just seems like a silly jump in difficulty.

Nicol Bolas' deck isn't legal. Many cards in it are broken (as in ridiculously cheap), and are illegal or restricted in their respective formats. All the Mox cards in his deck are limit-1-per-deck in the two formats they are legal in.

Don't feel bad that he's beating you. It's just the only way the developers can think of making a challenging boss.

My advice is to use Jace's deck, and just spill his deck straight into the graveyard. That way, you won't really need to worry about having creatures out to defend, you can just tap, bounce, counter, etc his creatures while you bleed his mind out.

Play Jace if you want to beat him with no problem. That's what i did.

Jace FTW. Nicol started to skip her combat stage when I got her to about 15 cards in her deck. 2 turns later, milled to death.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'll try a few more with Chandra's, then give Jace a go once I'm sick of losing. Has anybody done it with Chandra (reliably, outside of just getting lucky draws) that has any tips?

Wow, that was easy with Jace.

First try, first time using the deck.

I'm glad I don't care much for boss fights in games -- you know the ones that require 20 attempts. But this wasn't even a challlange with the Jace deck. Granted, he never had a chance to play anything powerful as it was in the graveyard. :-p

How'd you know to try that first?

Had you read up on the fight, or was there some in-game hint that I missed?

Was able to beat him pretty easily the first time with the white deck.
