Is this a sequel/remake of the Microprose game of the same name?
I fondly remember the original microprose version of "Duels of the Planeswalkers" and the expansion, "Wisdom(sic) of the ancients." Is this an updated remake of that game?

If I am remembering the game you are talking about correctly, this is not the same at all. Its basically magic with set decks that you have decent yet limited customization for. Its really fun if you don't have the time and/or money for paper magic and you can play online against others as well.

That's actually very similar to the version i'm thinking of. You could create decks from some 200 or so cards (mostly limited to the first few expansions). You could choose to play just a single game of the CCG, or you could play a side game called "M:TG Shandalar, in which you played an adventurer out to defeat five wizards (one of each color) and then defeat a demon with 100 hp.

There was an overworld, a map to explore, the works.

No, it is not like that at all. These are 10 pre-set decks of 60 cards, 30 cards that are unlockable in a pre-determined order for beating your opponent and 10 additional that is unlockable through promo codes. So each deck can potentially have 100 cards (lands included) that you can to customize yourself.

It is still the card game if that is what you are asking, but you don't control an avatar walking around challenging opponents and winning/losing ante cards. There is no map. You can play against 10 AI's, each with their own unique decks and a multiplayer option to play online against others. I'm sure you can probably find some videos on youtube that shows some gameplay and get a good idea of what the game looks like.

I was right, that was the game I was thinking of! I loved that game, I love this game too, but I would love another single player like that instead of the Campaign mode here which is an avatar you click on and then play a game. That old game was so much fun...and really buggy as well, lol.
