The mining mechanic is the absolute worst
Am I the only one who absolutely hates mining in this game and feels like it is bad enough to spoil what it otherwise an excellent game?

I don't mind the other, similar, mechanics in the game, such as the loom and the saw mill because hitting the perfect timing results in more resources. With mining you have to hit the perfect timing in order to get anything.

Worst of all, if you miss that timing targeting the resource node becomes impossible. You have to walk back and forth around the rock for like 2 or 3 minutes before it will let you target it again. I find this really frustrating.

Maybe I'm just overly sensitive. It also bothers me that it's so much easier during the dragon encounters. I don't think it's possible to miss these ones, is it?

I personally do not mind the 'timing' of the shots ..

The issue of re-targeting is a problem though.. not sure about 5 minutes of trying to get it to work..

why I cannot just keep doing it over and over till it breaks .. or I back out would be better, eliminating the targeting issues would be great.
I'm annoyed by that mechanic too. It also takes needlessly long to mine. Although the same way I feel about most similar things in this game, they are fine for the first few times, but when you have to repeat them more and more all that extra wasted time just annoys me: fishing, smelting, watering are like that.

And retargeting is the worst, I agree on that with @RedLightning. It messes up watering sometimes as well, but mining retargeting is kinda broken.
