Need help with "A Helpful Spending Spree"

After buying all items required from vending machine, I can't find Overbrook Caretaker to report to him. Guides say, he should be outside Tower (where he usually was), but he is no longer there. Can't find him anywhere.

How many items did you buy? For me, the quest said that I should buy three items and report back to him. He was standing outside the tower but wouldn't say anything interesting. When I bought the fourth item (after playing near vending machine's building) I got an exclamation mark from him and managed to hand in that quest.

I got it. He showed up after I completed another jumping section with Daria.
