Giovanni won't join

I am stuck.
Giovanni won't follow me to my ship. He asks me to leave him alone.
Also Masha and Irina don't appear in my game.
Astrid-quest tells me to ask for Giovanni on "the island". But I don't know which island.

Can anybody help, please?

There are a couple of islands you need to visit before recruiting Giovanni on Loneberg. Iwashima Countryside first, then Furogawa (then one or two more things before the game directs you to Loneberg).

It's been a while, so I don't remember specifically, but I know a number of quests have useful details in the italic text below the "Current Objective" box. That might tell you which specific island you should be heading for.
