Controller Prompts and Crash / Long Wait at logo
Just bought the game, but two issues are really quite annoying right now.

First I had the problem (or I thought I had the problem) that the game crashes in the logo. But it just takes a long time while looking freezed. A looooong time. Ok. I waited and just wanted to play the game...

But the prompts of my ps4-controller are not correct. In fact they are completely gibberish. White Square for accept. x for cancel. Left for right and whatsoever.

I just want some relatable prompts... I am okay, if the game displays xbox-prompts, but that nonsense is just so weird.

I tried disabling Steam-Input, that doesnt work. I also reinstalled etc. Tried many solutions, but the waiting at the start of the game (That is not normal, right?) is frustrating.

The waiting is not normal, some user have reported it but I am not sure what is causing it for them. As what happens at that moment is the reading of the save file as well as warming up the shaders, it might be related to an anti-virus slowing down the operation or GPU drivers being slow. You can try running the game while adding this launch option:

-force-d3d12

For the prompts, normally if you disable Steam Inputs and any controller middlewares (x360ce, DS4Windows, etc) they work out of the box with a PS4 controller. You can try first deleting SAVE_OPTIONS.sav and SAVE_OPTIONS_BACKUP.sav at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Thunder Lotus Games\Spiritfarer
Thanks for helping!
unfortunately the launch option doesnt help.
i dont have a controller middleware running and tried deleting that files... nothing new. :(

Do you have anything like a flight stick, steering wheel or other such controller that could be incorrectly detected as a controller?
No, only mouse, keyboard and a printer. :)

If you go in Steam "General Controller Settings" menu, do you see anything listed there beside the PS4 controller? Also is your PS4 controller wired or wireless?
It is wired.
Steam lists also my mouse... i do not know if this is as it should be.

Hmm your mouse shouldn't show show up under controllers. Just for fun, can you try unplugging your mouse while the game is running and see if the prompts are displayed correctly? It's possible it's somehow trying to get glyphs for your mouse (and those don't exist).
Yeah that works so far! Nice! :) but when i plug the mouse back in, the problem is also back. I am currently trying to work out how to stop Steam from recognizing my mouse as a controller, but I really do not see a way how to do so...

Do you have any software that cam with the mouse for macros or things like that? Possibly turning of that software would prevent it from being seen as a controller by Windows.
I figured out that it was all about that scroll wheel thingy at the side of the mouse I never use. I was able to deactivate it in the devices-manager and yeah! That worked!
Still freezes at the start...
but for now i am quite happy, thanks a lot!
