Spiritfarer is a game where you uncover stories through resource management and base building, but resource management and base building are both still a big part of your actual active game time.
From what I can see the game is a more of an experience and you just gotta go with the flow. And there ARE things you can do. Fishing and cooking is something you can do between destinations. Resource management is a fairly big part of the game.
If you're only doing it for the story and nothing else then this game might not be for you.
Play CSGO and Doom for good story telling? Are you confused?
If you don't care about gameplay seriously just look at a walkthrough of the game on youtube or something. I'm sure there are playthroughs of the game that's just to take people through the story that don't want to bother with gameplay.
I'm still going through some light tutorials, but way more activities are available to occupy your time in transit, existing ones get a bit more complicated (e.g. fishing mini-game becomes slightly more complex, you can play music to develop crops, etc.), and I've got a few new crew members with different wants and needs. More islands are opening up as well. As far as plot development, I'm just now starting to learn more about the characters now that they're finishing up telling me about the game mechanics.
Yeah, the first hour is pretty dull, and I think most people leaving you condescending comments have completely forgotten about how the game starts. Tutorials are always slow, boring slogs. But I think you should stick with it; for me it's just now finding its groove and I'm excited to see where the game goes.
All that being said . . . keep in mind this is a sim/ management game. All games like this tend to move at a more relaxed pace with their plot beats. So if you're expecting the plot to develop at the same pace as a story-focused adventure game, I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment. This seems like the type of game where it's a slow burn, that focuses more on making memories through your day-to-day interactions with your guests, until there's an emotional payout towards the mid and end game.
Not to be offensive, but you sound like a younger person. The need to be instantly gratified or rewarded, usually.
this isn't a 10 minute fortnite match, or a round of amogus.
think more in line with a JRPG in terms of story telling, and you'll appreciate the fact this game actually puts effort into the writing.
Of course, if everything feels like a chore to you, then this simply isn't the game for you. And that's fine.
if you're not the type to play a game like animal crossing, cozy grove, stardew valley and the like; then you will liekly get little pleasure from this one.
They also expect you to backtrack for an upgrade, they point out an upgrade station that requires 2 skill points but at the time you only have one. Then they send you on another long boat trip where you get the second skill point, so they expect you to backtrack, go all the way back again on another long boat trip back to the same place you were just at. I'm getting sleepy just thinking about it. Sitting on a boat watching a progress bar fill up for 2-5 minutes anytime you go anywhere is not compelling gameplay in my opinion.
I was drawn to it because of some reviews praising the emotional story, a game about helping souls pass on that does it well could be an amazing experience. But it's too much grinding and waiting around for things. Other people obviously like the game, but I didn't.
I need ot be in the right modd for this sort of thing, but i can see the potetinal in it. I just need a solid weekened
