Unsure if this is how, but she went to sleep once I got to the ice area. Cold makes snakes sleep, after all.

Thanks that worked :)

If anyone is still here, we can't get her to hibernate.

We've literally sat in the ice floes for several days, but she always wakes up and goes about her business despite the cold and lack of ringing the bell.

Is there any chance that we can get this damn quest to work, or are we going to have to try our chances fishing aluminum out of crates?

my best guess is that you might need to do some other quests first, like have you finished the oneness and the wholeness?

Does Summer have any outstanding quests? If so, that's definitely the problem.

Have you upgraded Summer's house on board the ship with the two available decorations? I don't know if that's required, but it's at least plausible.

Do you have Atul on board? Again, I don't know if he's required, but it's a plausible possibility.

Off the top of my head, there's no other obvious candidates for blocking her progress, but it's been a while since I played.
