Do the chickens lay eggs?

So I have had the chicken coop for quite some time now, and I have grown two chickens. What now? :D As nothing seems to be happening - I thought the chickens would lay eggs, but nope, they are... just there. That's it. I cannot even feed them (or I don't know how). Any ideas?

Outside of the coop there's an object to interact with. I think it's some kinde of birdfeeder thingy .. you can fill it with seeds to feed the chickens.

Thanks! I've literally just realised that there is that feeder, so now everything works 😊

The chicken coop kind of amuses me because in the real world a chicken will lay an egg once every 24-27 hours, but I have a coop on my ship with like 6 chickens in it and I get one egg every couple of days.

The mechanic makes sense, as otherwise you'd be overrun by eggs (as is the case in my backyard in real life), but still, it would have made a tad more sense to me to only have one or two chickens in the coop and get the same number of eggs, rather than to have so many and get so few.

Edit: I'm now beginning to wonder if there might be a small bug associated with the number of eggs you get. In a new coop I was getting one egg per chicken until I had four or more chickens, at which point I went back to only getting one egg. I posted about it over in the Bugs section, if anyone else is experiencing the same issue.
