CO OP QUESTIONS
1 How does local co op work? Me and my girlfriend want to play but are not sure if we need a controller or if we both download/buy it can we just connect to each other.
2 Will players be able to separate from each other on other parts of the boat or do we need to be right next to each other.
3 is the multiplayer aspect enjoyable and what would you say the multiplayer experience is similar to? We usually play games such as RISK OF RAIN 2 and was wondering if it is similar to any of these, Stardewvalley, and Rimworld.

The co-op in the game is local co-op only. Of course by using Remote Play Together or a similar service you can play on two separate computers. But only one needs/can own the game. The other player will play through a stream. As the game only support a single keyboard player, you will need at least one controller. As for whether or not it is enjoyable, I suggest you try the demo, it will give you a good idea of the gameplay!

2) You can separate from each other to a certain extent. The screen will pan out from the main protagonist (player 1) if the cat (player 2) wanders too far off. It will only zoom out so far though, but were fine when we were on the boat doing our own thing.

3) My partner and I found it enjoyable. In the demo, the cat can do almost everything the protagonist could do (hug and talk to npc's, cook food, plant in the garden). I haven't played Stardew Valley, but if you would consider its core genre to be "recreational simulator", then it will be similar in that regard.

Does Co-op work with multiple controllers?

I trying to play Co-op with 2 PS4 Controllers, but the options menu doesn't seem to incorporate multiple GamePads and the controlling of the characters seem to get wires crossed.

Seems like a great oversight if you only allow one controller for a Co-op game, no?

It does support multiple controllers. 2 PS4 controllers will work fine, both locally or through Remote Play Together. If it does not work, it's possible you have something else detected as a controller preventing the game from using the correct one. Common culprits are some peripherals (driving wheel, flight stick, guitar hero dongle) or controller emulators/middleware like DS4Windows or X360ce. For two PS4 controllers, I'd also suggest disabling Steam Input for the game.

I don't know how to disable Steam Input...

I used 2 Xbox 360 controllers when playing co-op.

I'm not entirely sure what is meant by Steam Input either, but I would suggest looking at the controller settings to make sure nothing is being overridden. Within Steam, go to top top menu (the tiny font text) for View->select Settings->select Controllers near the bottom->then select General Controller Settings to tinker from there.

I will note that I do not use Big Picture Mode. I also always turn the controllers on before I load up the game (seems dumb, but some games won't recognize the controller if it is turned on during the game)

Yeah, I'm not fond of Big Picture Mode either; but some of my other games don't work without it... and then messes up others that used to work fine. Ugh, I really hope this isn't one of those cases:steamfacepalm:

If you right click on the game in your library and click on "properties" you should then see a "Controller" tab that will allow you to disable Steam Input for the game. Steam Input is a wrapper Steam made to give more control on controllers outside of games but it sometime interfere with how a game is setup.

Nope, disabling Steam Input just made neither work. The only thing it did do was show the correct key-binds for a PS4 controller rather than Xbox controller which I don't have.

The problem is that your control config in game only has three options (None, Keyboard, GamePad) and there is no way to indicate separate Gamepads, so the controls go to crap with both of them on.

Also, there is no permanence to those game settings. Every time I start the game, I have to manually reconfigure the controls and which character it controls. That's quite annoying :(
hello, pc player here, wanted to check if it's possible to play the game local co-op with two keyboards connected since i dont have a controller

Not directly as a computer generally treats all keyboard inputs as one shared input device and does not differentiate between different physical keyboards and just reacts to the key press regardless of which keyboard it was actually from.

So even with two physically separate keyboards plugged in the game will still react as if it was the same input and not allow you to be able to control each player separately.

In contrast controllers are generally setup to be recognized as separate input devices so any combination of multiple controllers or 1 keyboard + controllers for remaining players works for multiple players up to the max players in a game.

Its always why remote play together requires controllers for separate player controls since its running the game from a single instance so it treats player A and player B keyboards as a single device.
