Kohan II: Kings of War

Kohan II: Kings of War

New to Kohan and in need of some advice
I recently aquired the Kohan games (god knows how they managed to stay under my radar that long), and I am currently playing the campaign of kings of war.

Since I like a challenge, I decided to play on hard, and after a bit of getting used the games, the first chapter went smoothly. I really enjoyed the big battle at the end of the mission were you fight through the canyons and have to colonize the settlements ( the "uh oh" moment and then after a long fight standing over the fields of broken bodies in triumph).

I have gotten to chapter two, and after It's first mission (which was a bit too easy), I got plain stuck fighting the Drauga in the wasteland. The first mission there I could manage, more through luck than through skill (the one were you have to slay the dragon), a knife edge balancing act victory indeed; Now however, I am totaly stuck in the next mission (mission 8: like crows to a corpse). I manage to raze the settlement above your starting position, and hold on to it, but after a while I just get annihilated by swarms of high level infantry and shamans.

The main problem is, and this is something I myself have yet to get a hang of, they come, they fight, they retreat, new troops take their place, and when They are fought of, the earlier ones come back at full strenght. All this while my troops are hard pressed to fend the streams of fresh Drauga warriors of, not being able to resupply themselves, since they are all needed to hold the line continuously. It should be noted that my initiative-seizing on the battlefield is a bit lackluster (let them come, we'll be waiting for 'em... kind of playstyle). From what I've read (the strategy guides on the renewed fan site), that is a lethaly inapropriate manner of conduct on the Kohan battlefield. The entrenchment bonus and the nearby militia make it seem worthwhile though.

If any veteran Kohan player could give me some advice on troop rotation, managing early economy (which I admittetly botch most of the time), and tactics for using undead against drauga, along with advice on defensive/offensive play It would be very much appreciated.

I haven't played that mission in a long while, but I'll see about firing it up again and give it a look.

Okay, yeah, there are 3 enemy cities total, and two of them are north east of your starting position. Honestly, I think you could probably just rush both of them with your starting 4 guys. Then from there it's just a matter of holding them and playing the clock as you accumulate more resources, faster than the AI can. There's plenty of gold and stone around your starting locale, and the other two are rich as well-- get the income happening, and throw up an outpost or two at your start base's east side to auto-defend against any attacks in the south. Basically if you can take the furthest north base and the central one, they will focus all their attacks on the center, it looks like, so you can focus all your defending there.

But yeah, no one attacked me until about 15 minutes in, so you have plenty of time to rush them before they can build up, I expect.
