Don't worry about planing to much because there is a respec potion sold at the bar for 50 gold, either way its worth it and I buy a bunch as soon as i can. They get replaced every chapter too. You can use them to also spec your dwarf to sell things and ogre to bash doors, then go right back to combat spec. for the dwarf you gain 10% sell and discount which makes the cost a no brainier even if your just buying one thing for over 1k.
Also as you go you can change your skills around. For example, i like to add extra courage early, then i spec out of it after i get gear. Also early it's often better to have a bunch of skills verse a couple upgraded. Cool downs are long and a few options can be helpful. (ranger tactics bonus that adds 10 dodge and 20% resist and wizards Whirl that adds stun are a couple exceptions) as you go you can focus better as more skills are available at the higher aka lower levels of the skill tree.
Still, playing around with different builds and combos is part of the fun, so just hit that tavern and grab some of those oblivion potions and have fun! You can even do things like spec against stealth, or spec for fire/poison/made ect.
