Don't worry too much about money or XP either as even if you don't do all the sidequests you'll hit max level before the end of the game and have like 80k+ extra gold to spend. (Max level is 10 btw)
I'm also playing on "normal" I was playing on hard, but i found that was not fun for a first play through. But that's what i did.. Just remember that knock back hits can do lots of damage because they trigger the attacks of oppertunity. the ranger with his buff can add another, so you can get a bunch of extra damage with KB.
