Stump Grinding Tips! Actual ones.
These may already be well known, but for those of you who would rather chew your own hand off than grind stumps, maybe this will help a bit. I did this in the rain and it worked well.

> Switch your transmission to CVTx2. This is sort of like 4 wheel drive and will really help with the next part. Promise.
> Backing up is for chumps and data. Drive forward over the stump. If it's on a hill, you want to face down the hill. It'll help you hop over the stump since those tend to stick up a bit more.
> As soon as you even get close to the center of the stump with your grinder, hold F. As soon as it begins to grind it'll keep going, even if you slide off a bit.
> Whenever possible, move your camera to a top-down viewpoint. I know this is kind of a DUH tip, but sometimes the simplest things are the most overlooked.
> Larger stumps, such as oak stumps, seem to activate off-center. They can be a bit tricky but if you don't get green in the center, keep holding F and fiddle with it.
> Finally, every third stump or so, grumble that brakes would make this ten times easier. I don't know if that actually helps but it's what I did and it seemed to work.

Good luck with your grinding!

I've been having good luck backing up over the stumps until I hit a stubborn one and have to make another pass from a different angle. The little ones are easy to drive over, but I run one wheel over the lager stumps to avoid getting stuck on it. And stopping up hill is easier for me than stopping down hill, but sometimes you don't have a choice. You don't have to wait for the stump to grind just take off for the next one. My camera angle is all over the place, but first lined up perpendicular to the stump and then to the side to see which way I need to go.

Use the old tractor, drive a rear wheel over the stump as you come of the stump turn the tractor so the grinder goes over the stump, stop and grind. It sounds a bit tricky but it's not just try it on a few stumps. I've used this technique clearing 9 forests.

That's exactly the way I do it, only not with the old tractor. Turn left or right after hopping over the stump which ever way leads uphill. But sometime you over shoot the target and have to reverse jogging back and forth trying to lock on the very tiny hitbox. It's difficult to perform these maneuvers on steep or rough ground, but a breeze on fairly flat ground. I can drive straight through some of the stumps with the tractor and some of the other equipment, but with the stump grinder attached they all come to life and are solid. I noticed that the hitbox on the stumps is not the center of the stump, but the center of the highlighted circle.

Hi Jobe, I tried it first with a new tractor but had trouble on hilly ground so I tried the old one, much better, lifts the grinder a bit higher and is much better on hills, no sliding about.
