Found out the option to leave the vehicle was not activated until I got close enough to the uncle. The option to get out suddenly popped up after I started driving around a bit to see if that would shake something loose. When a quest or obstruction is preventing exiting a vehicle, or performing any other action, there should be a message telling us what's going on, so we know how to fix the issue and can better tell the difference between a bug and an intended feature. Giving the user a bit more feedback is always helpful in enjoying the game and avoiding frustration.
Also, originally you could drive the tractor to the equipment dealership, then exit & sell the tractor (with uncle still in it). So the developers removed such an option & restricted your exiting the tractor until you drove it to the correct location.
But its all a balancing act. Trying to add enough dialogue, & way point markers, but without over doing it. The initial quests are part of the tutorial of sorts, to guide the player into the games mechanics. From there on, the game opens up & allows you a lot more flexibility to go about completing the various objectives however you desire.
I was told "go here do this" but when I went there, I couldn't do anything and was given no direction from the game as to why I couldn't do anything.
I do understand the game's in early access, but that's all the more reason to give the developers my feedback on my experiences playing the game so far. How can they improve on the overall experience if nobody tells them what's currently harming the overall user experience? That's one of the things I like about EA is we all get the chance to share feedback and suggestions with the developers and help them shape their game into something amazing.
That is part of the problem with such tutorial mechanics, in that you have to somehow make sure that the player gets to the correct location for the next part of the tutorial to do its part.
And any & all feedback is greatly appreciated, since more ideas increase the chance that a workable solution may be found to see what works & what is a problem.
Display a message on screen that says something like "Follow the way points to your objective, when you're in the area marked green on the map, you will be able to start the next step in the mission."
and have a way of reviewing the steps needed to complete a mission as well. I'd suggest also having an in story way of checking the progress and reviewing your tasks, such as if you talk to the person who gave you a quest, you have a dialogue option that goes something like this:
"what was I supposed to do again?"
and the person will then repeat the instructions for the steps not yet completed, and maybe acknowledge the parts that are done.
These are good suggestions. The tutorial and story line are also a work in process. Perhaps the dev's will take note of your findings.
