can't pickup first log
Has anyone had an issue with the very first quest where your uncle wants you to pick a log off the ground and put it on the trailer? I can move the trailer arm but i cannot get it to actually close the claw on the log.

You need to remove the branches AND cut the tree into logs (most times 3 logs from 1 tree). Once cut can be picked up. Also note, if a log will not highlight to pickup, walk along it with chainsaw (big end to small) and you may get a cut log option, do that and the tip gets cut off and the log will load.

Normal key binding is ENTER. Double-check that this hasn't somehow got changed in the options. Otherwise, just make sure the claw is close to the log, & it should then highlight green when able to be picked up.

i'll check it, I did press enter and checked the key bindings but there wasn't anything there. the claw never highlighted green. maybe i need to hover over the log or something. ill give it another shot.

Yeah just try re-positioning & then swing the arm around & up & down, usually it has a wide range where you will see the green highlight. And its the log the highlights not the claw.

not sure exactly what my problem is, but i cannot get the log to highlight green at all. i've moved all around in different positions and manipulated the arm up and down in different spots on these logs and it still isn't highlighting it. very strange. i'm going to disconnect my game controller and see if it is causing the issue.

Yeah that might be the issue. Another option is to upload your save game files to something like Dropbox, & I could look at them to see if the problem is the same for me. You only need to upload the 7 save files for your most recent save.

One other thing, that I just though of. Have you cut the log to the shorter lengths?? If you look at the log with the chainsaw active & press/hold the ES button (RMB default), it will show you the cutoff symbols. On some trees the very top section has a short piece that makes it too long. This gets cut off, & disappears, but then you can pickup the log.

OH... lol... I trimmed the branches off the log but didn't cut the logs down any further. let me check that.

Okay i'm an idiot lol. that was the problem, I didn't realize i needed to cut the logs down further. I just assumed that the trailer was long enough that i was going to just pick up the entire tree and put it on the trailer. Thanks for the help.

Great to see that it was a simple fix, & not another bug in the game.

This is another example where a screenshot may have shortened the solution finding time, since it is very hard to convey with just text what is really happening.

  1. What type of controller are you using?
  2. Have you checked the keybindings?
  3. Have you fully trimmed branches, & cut the tree to the proper lengths?
Maybe providing a screenshot would assist in debugging your problem.
