Same as that the first 2 dungeon siege games are sold without the expansions and that some games remain early access forever (such as the game kingdoms)
Valve doesn't give a damn. As long as it's being sold it will remain there, even if it's half baked or forever a beta product.
A bit different. Officially it was still early access, but dev decided to get it out of early access and then left. So on paper it looks like it's a full release, but in reality it's still an early access product. And unfortunately that's not gonna change, ever.
I find it weird that he abandoned the project through some sort of reasoning behind a family issue when he's recently updated his steam profile, i think if he has enough time to be doing things on the internet, why not at least come back and write an update on their situation and tell us if they will ever get back to development or not instead of completely leaving us in the dark.
It's obvious people have no idea what the difference between the developer and the publisher is.
Or what can happen to an IP, when a dev studio signs the publishing agreement with the publisher.
It can sometimes become nasty between dev and publisher. See what happened during the development of Gothic 3. Piranha Bytes, the developer and JoWood, who was then the publisher, ended up in court, because Piranha Bytes actually wanted to wait with the release, but JoWood demanded that it would be released right away. So it was released, a half baked game and it didn't sold well first. Piranha wanted then to break with JoWood, lawsuit followed and it ended with departing ways anyway, but JoWood hold then the ip of gothic, which was actually lend to them. Piranha Bytes is still there nowadays, having released 3 Risen games since then and 2 Elex games. And JoWood? They are gone. Filled in for bankruptcy and their assets were acquired by Nordic.
But that's a different situation then here with Neverinth.
Base is not bad indeed. But it's really too bad that there is alot of unfinished business in it, including a boss who doesn't move an inch. I don't find it soulslike. More towards god eater or septerra core.
