Boomerang Fu will only be local multiplayer, although we do try to make the Steam Remote Play experience as smooth as possible. The lag and graphics quality can vary depending on the quality of everyone's internet connection, but it can be really good for some people.

We've concentrated our efforts on making the best party game experience we can for when the pandemic is over (or so you can slice and dice whoever you're locked down with right now).

Yeah I want this to be available for online as well, considering the pandemic situation.

Played this at a Sydney convention a couple years back and been waiting ever since for its release. Online multiplayer would be such a great boon to the player base and lifespan of the game. Friends and I played the demo through remote play (albeit laggy) every day of the beta.
Remote playing with 5 other players has its issues which definitely marred our demo experience which was otherwise fun as heck.

Love it! While I'd LOVE online, local with bots is solid enough, and playing as Milk just won't get old. Going to try remote play for pseudo-online, and my Switch copy for local play. Gotta double dip my avocado into that milk, y'know? <3 (EDIT: This is not an innuendo, only realized as an afterthought.)

Might I suggest/request looking into Parsec SDK integration? I've generally found Parsec to be far superior to Steam Remote Play Together. Lower latency AND better video quality. Every time I've tried Steam's version, it's too laggy on the other end for everyone else. But with Parsec, I can host and people 300-1000mi away from me generally have minimal lag.

Their API (which is supposed to be easy to integrate with) takes care of multiplayer without you having to write netcode (by streaming the screen). You can also get public matchmaking by integrating with Parsec Arcade.

I have hosted Boomerang Fu's demo via Parsec and it was fine, FWIW. But it'd be cool to have that integrated into the game and not have to specifically convince my friends to play. (I know Boomerang Fu's bots are pretty good, but that's not the point. Playing with strangers of varying behaviors and skill levels would be fun!)

Also turned this up on Google. it's one team's hands on experience about integrating using the Unity plugin. (Don't know whether you'd be using unity or one of the other plugins):

Is adding online connectivity fruitful?

For the level of effort when using this technology, absolutely. i just found this game a couple days ago via a reddit post. man i wish this had online :/ it looks like a crazy fun game, i just cant justify getting it when even with the pandemic over gathering everyone up in one spot is like pulling teeth now. (who knows maybe ill justify getting it anyway, it looks too fun. )

I just played this game yesterday with some friends and it was amazing, and aside from the fact that literally nobody does couch co-op on PC unless they plug it into their TV (So maybe steam deck users), not having online multiplayer makes this game kind of useless if you don't have friends. I get it's a party game, but what if I want to play it when I'm not at a party? What if I want to play the game on twitch or something? Look, I really want to buy this game, but I won't ever play it because I don't have friends over, so there's literally no point for me to purchase it.

Use Steam Remote-Play-Together or Parsec. Problem solved.
