As someone who's tried and failed to play the board game, it's definitely a lot easier to start with and play the digital game as it will keep track of all the rules and game flow for you. I remember reading the rules in the board game and thinking "Man, this would be so much easier as a video game" lol.
There is another one after Marauders ? I thought that was the last one
I don't think the digital version has the second Clockwork expansion. Which has clockwork versions of the lizards, otters, crows and moles. Digital also doesn't have all the hireling mini expansions.
Some of the rules are a little bit different from the board game.
Just from the top of my head:
With the print edition cats are allowed to use the field hospital immediately after losing warriors, while the digital version only allows them to do it at the beginning of their turn. Which can mean the difference whether or not someone destroys the cats very important keep.
Also the digital game ONLY pauses play to ask a defending player in battle if they want to use an ambush card, IF they indeed have one. Which gives away information that the other players should not have access to.
Both of these interactions are in the name of speeding up game play, doubly so for asynchronous. Not HUGE impacts most of the time, but sometimes it can effect a game negatively. I'm sure there are others that I have missed.
Thank you for the comments! After reading them, I went ahead and got myself the board game and it's been a blast!
Absolutely lovely to play and was able to use the video-game to better explain the rules to everyone else playing.
Awesome I'm glad it worked out for you! Alos, check our r/rootgame on Reddit. It's been a great spot to ask questions.
