Difference between History and Gold Edition
Hello there
What's the difference between this and the original gold version?
I already have the gold edition ... is it worth it to buy this version?
Game description only says win10 compatibility. Is that all?! If yes, why didn't ubisoft just update the original?

the steam store makes it seem like it's settlers 7 only, but if you look for the trailer on youtube, it seems like it's all 7 settler's games. i dont know what to believe.

Well, here on steam it's most certainly only settlers 7, since one can also buy a collection including the "history edition" of settlers 5 and 6, which wouldn't make much sense if this game here already includes them all...
There is a non steam history version with all the other settlers.

Unfortunately, this doesn't answer my question...

Hello everyone, thank you for your question.

The History Edition of the games are designed to run on Windows 10, whereas the previous Gold editions of the games may not have natively supported Windows 10.

The online servers should work for games that are History Edition versions, the Gold edition versions of the game, may not be able to connect to our servers now, this would be the case for Settlers 7 as it features on our retired servers list >

And why didn't the original just get an update?!
Ubi Milky  [developer] Oct 11, 2022 @ 10:40am
As far as I have been told, some of our older game's that run on our older servers are difficult to update for our IT teams due to technical limitations and older infrastructure, it is easier to release a new version of the game that is compatible with our updated Connect launcher and servers, which is one of the reasons why we release History Edition of our games.

Another reason to create History Editions versions of our games, is to give the players the option to own all older games in one bundle.

I hope I have been able to answer your questions, if you have any more about The Settlers 7 History Edition, please let us know?

I have the same question ... i run the Gold Edition just fine on Windows 10. I don't even know what "supports Win10 natively" is supposed to mean, this is a PC, i can play 30 year old games just fine on Windows 10.

So there is absolutely no reason for me to buy the History Edition, right? It is just the same game?

Hey Eisenmonoxid,

By native support - we're referring to the fact that the original titles were release before Windows 10, so didn't make full use of the OS, whereas the History Edition is updated to better support modern systems. This is before we get into the matter of hardware being different since the original releases too.

It's completely up to players if they opt to purchase the History Edition.

If you're more than happy with the original game's performance and don't feel any use for the History Edition there's no need to purchase it.

If you have any other questions, just let us know.
