Do you need Uplay?

I can't start the game whitout Uplay. can enyone tell me why

i bought the game 4 days ago, and steam support told me to speak with uplay support. they sayd that with this version it links your game to your uplay account, but it doesn´t, i have no answer since 3 days from Uplay, ill wait until tuesday, if they dnt activate the game from there i will ask steam for the refund

Heyho, all Ubisoft games on PC require a link with Uplay.
This link should automatically be made when starting the game on Steam, i.e. you should be prompted to login to Uplay or asked if you want to link it to your Uplay account, if you're already logged in to Uplay on your PC.

@Mr.Floppy: Do you not receive the above-mentioned prompts or get some kind of error message? Could you try starting Uplay and logging in first and then starting the game via Steam?

I don't have eny problem with eny onther ubisoft game and I don't have a uplay account so that cant be the problem

Ah, I finally figured out how to get it running!
1. Search for Uplay on your computer and find the "UplayInstaller.exe" file.
2. I then Run the Installer with Administrative Rights
3. The program installed and I set up a Uplay account (without verification)
4. After completing the registration I pressed continue and the game booted up

Everything seems to be working fine but I as yet have not played the game because I am busy with other things, fingers crossed it runs just fine I will keep you posted, unless of course I get lost in the land of the Settlers, then there could be delays, HAHA - Best of Luck!

Very strange indeed. I have been playing the game with only one issue where the graphics randomly freeze, everything else appears perfect. I guess you have tried other ways to start it. I am not certain but they have recently updated it to be more secure, maybe you need to verify it now? I hope you get it fixed soon, I have been addicted to it since I started playing it again.

Think i quiet ubisoft games must make an uplay account i have for god sake already steam account need no other accounts, oh yeh bought settlers 7 can i get my money back i make no account for uplay had also not see a notice about it
