Is there a difference with the original game? Patch the old versions or maybe give these new ones for free to existing owners?

I allready own all 3 settlers games that have been released again today. Is there something new? I remember playing them fine on win10, expept from heritage of kings which i hadn't started at all. Should there be a patch or something or even give us these new versions for free?

So in this renamed version they haven't added any new maps? Please spoon feed me. Because I love S7 so much, I would buy this if they've added a few new maps. Yes I know it's madness.

Hey there, it's not a "we can't sell The Settlers 7 anymore" kind of situation. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Settlers we released History Editions of all 7 games in November last year - on Uplay.
These versions basically are re-releases with some small improvements like win10 compatibility and (for the older games) support for higher resolutions and even multi-screen setups.
All games include all addons but no additional content.

On Steam only S5, S6 + S7 were available, so we now replaced all 3 games with their History Edition equivalent. For owners of the old S7 version the DLC are still in store in case you don't own them yet but want to.

If you already own the game(s) and have no issues running them on your system, there's no real reason to buy the History Edition now. It's mainly interesting for people who don't own the games yet.

@Ubi-Thorlof: Well for Settlers 5 the difference between the old and history edition are the 2 addons, which are not included in the old version. So if I want to get them too, I‘ll have to buy the new history version? Is there absolutely no chance for us owners of the old version to get an update or a free version of the settlers 5 history edition?

Thanks for the answer, since i started this thread i have to thank you . The reason for making the thread is that i love the settlers games and i didn't want to miss on anything, on the other hand with so many new games considering to buy (including the upcoming anno game), it would be difficult for me to buy these new versions as well, since i own the original ones. So since there is no real difference or advantage in having them, i will simply ignore them.

Why don't you release other Settlers games (History Edition) on Steam?

The History Collection as well as The Settlers 1-4 are Uplay exclusive and are not planned to be released on Steam. We simply replaced the already existing The Settlers 5-7 games with the History Edition version here on Steam.

For some resolution issues you might be able to tweak the ini file, for example, but others like The Settlers 5 especially do have issues running on Win10, yes, simply due to their age. S5 was released 15y ago, compatibility issues with old games like these are fairly normal, I'd say.
If you can't solve these issues but want to play The Settlers 5, for example, the History Edition is a way to do that.
There are no plans for discounts and there's no option to upgrade the previous version to the History Edition.

Ok that answered every question i had. At least consider bundling those 3 games in a pack here on steam, to make purchase easier in case of a future sale. I will buy them eventually anyway. Bringing the rest of the series would also be fantastic, that would be an instant purchase for me and many others, since i buy everything and only on steam.

History Edition is the same game I already purchased + solved compatibility issues with modern systems. So basically you want me to buy the patch for the price of full game. That's not acceptable.

Yep, not acceptable fits pretty very fine here. Especially if you think of all smaller developers which gift you the enhanced version of a game if you own the original one. And those come almost always with extra polishing AND new content!

Thanks for that clarification. I didn't think there were any company changes since 2001 and wouldn't understand why there'd be a conflict in selling the originals, but your post helped out. Looking forward to picking up Settlers 2 10th Anniversary!
