just found out mayor will give it back in 2nd year mid-spring (i'll assume you've already triggered 6 episodes for him)

if you go to his house 2nd floor phone booth you can check how many episodes you've triggered with him.
if you've done 5/6 already, it could be that you need other villagers' episodes to be triggered as well.
unfortunately i don't know which villagers yet [google translating ♥♥♥ guides doesn't tell me who else to trigger ]
or yes could be the crops too... sorry couldn't help more as i'm still in 1st year winter

i'm sorry but with me just 3/6 but i planted a lot of crops and harvest them to ship. And i got this gadget with 5 hearts both with Major and Doraemon, when the Major come to talk about this gadget u can ask Doraemon to get it.
