It is a current trend for current generation of low budget game making, all we have to do is accept it -- they have a good game concept, but they don't have a good modeler (and never had a good "AI" programmer...*grin*), so are they gonna sit there and wait for little Timmy next door to grow up and became a talented 3D modeler, 3D animator and expert AI programmer to start making their game? No, they just buy the assets and proceed with zero AI and made a goofy fun (the fun factor is decreasing with every update, mind you, I wonder if Oscar the Grouch has taken over the company and is busy at work there to make the game UNFUN?) little game we all enjoyed (so far).
It is not exactly about talented 3D artists - we have those, but not an army. We can only make so much content. Models are one of the few areas that can be bought but even when you buy models it takes a lot of work to make it work in the game that feels like a one solid game not just random mix of bought assets. Also there is a ton of our own art in the game, characters, animations, destructible zombies, levels, effects,... Synty assets are really helpful for all stages of development and it would be difficult to create such a big game without it but it is only a little fraction of work that is put into the game.
I just realy thought all this is your own models, style. This was similar when I figured out as little child there is no Santa Claus. :P
I realy cant mad about this, I just dropped my jaw when I saw almost all models on that site. I have not much clue about game making.
I'm sure they pay for stuff and still put the work in on creating the game at the very least which is more than fine by me.
