You're both operating under the assumptions that this game will never maintain consistent player numbers (because it's not like new players will join to replace the people who get bored and leave, right?) and that the developers would do nothing to accomodate a drop in player count like reducing the number of required players to start a match.
Which is kind of ridiculous.
I'm also not sure where this plague of campers is. Despite how much crying there is on the forums I've played dozens of matches without running into any campers.
Seems like skill issue to me.
if thats enough to maintain queues now then it should also be enough in the future right? (so lets assume more people will buy the game over the month,even if 70% of them will quit and game will have like 250 players online at any given time it should still be enough right?)

the potential is massive if features get combined properly

Wow that's crazy, darkwood with multiplayer or coop would ruin it. One of the best horror games ever
I've encountered a pair of campers twice so far in the couple dozen or so runs I've done. Just gotta maintain situational awareness and know when to fight or flee.
