Grind/Slide tricks
The only part of this game that makes it hard to really get into it, would be the lack of a locking on function for rails and ledges. all other skateboarding games (including the app predecessor to this one have proven that to be the way to go. Its a bit less realistic, but i find fully clearing a rail or barely getting close to it when attempting a trick is much less realistic. Especially when the only level is one centered around ledges lol

No. Big no. It's perfect the way it is. Just get used to the controls and it's very easy to get into grinds and slides.

The entire draw of this game is in the difficulty. Its a skateboarding simulator. In order to be good you must spend the time practicing and trying different things with the controls. Almost anything is possible (I recently figured out how to pop into different grinds on the same ledge consistently) with experimentation.

If you want dumbed down controls there are plenty of other games out there. I recommend Skate 3 or any THPS title.

I understand what you are saying, but having it the way it is means that it allows so many opportunites that the skate 3 franchise didn't have, like gapping over rails in small spaces. Also in real life getting into a grind does take a large degree of precision for the most part - having a more distinctive 'snap' would take something away from the lovely fluid motion of the skater that there is currently.

If you like the rest of the game, just not this, then by the look of YouTube for this game there is a large opportunity for mods in this game, including changing game physics variables and consequently (I would imagine) access to variables about the proximity of a skater's board to rail to lock into a grind, give this a look - perhaps in the future someone might make a good mod which implements stronger snapping to rails also

I hate to be the one to say this (believe me) but... you need to GIT GUD.
It's simply mesmerizing how realistic it looks and feels when you get the hang of it.
Grinds and slides are quite possibly the best feature this game has to offer.
It seems overwhelming at first but soon you'll realize it's way easier and more intuitive than the Skate series. Keep practicing!
PRO TIP: There's always more than one way to get it right, depending on your angle and the side you want to turn.

as someone who can skate pretty well, when popping into a ledge or rail theres a certain "locked on target" thing that your body does to succesfully land in the right trick, I feel like if you could hold down the one foot catch when approaching the obstacle to apply pressure it'd be much more of a simulation than just kinda hoping it lands in

no way dude...just keep stuff as is, it´s sooo rewarding to nail a trick that doesn´t de-rail (pun intended)...also getting there has a learning curve
and sometimes I even intend to do a sloppy grind/slide - I´d hate to not have that option

only thing I would change is the way certain grinds are achieved, e.g. smith grind, me thinks I have to push both sticks in the right place (a very tiny place) in very short time, I´d rather have the frontfoot only control that (depending if the truck or nose/tail is on a rail/ledge)

I understand your logic. But you gotta take it into account that it's much easier to calculate ollie height and proper distance in RL than it is in video games.

The lack of a scripted grind animation is what makes this tricks so fluid. You can freely move your board to the right position depending on where you are landing (something that's impossible in other skate games).

And the "locked on target" feel is completely there for me. As I've said it, you have to get the hang of it and it takes time.

Just practice! If I can get into berrier nose stalls consistently, you can get into nice pinched grinds consistently. You get an instinct for the angle after awhile.
