Summer in Mara

Summer in Mara

View Stats:
Age recommendation
The suggested age for the game shows as PEGI 3, while the demo says PEGI 7.
And, other platforms say ESRB 10+.
My kid enjoyed Alba, and looking for something similar which might be this. She is 4 so finds controls hard.
Which is the correct rating?

Summer in Mara features the idea of conflict (though your own character doesn't do any combat). I would say PEGI 7 is more accurate than PEGI 3. I don't know anything about ESRB ratings.

Thank you. They have played and very much enjoyed them both. They may re-play Alba =]

Summer does require a lot of reading, a 4 yr old might have some trouble with it, since the game is pretty much only fetch quests, so they need to be able to read it all. Not an issue if you're playing it with them.

I've read some other reviews of some of the characters being scary for kids, so maybe check out the images of characters on the wiki first? But the game is colorful, the music is wonderful, and with some help, I think a 4 yr old would enjoy it.

ESRB ratings is similar to other countries rating system in a way.

You have
E - rated for Everyone
E10+ - Rated for Everyone 10+ years old or older
Teen - Rated for Teens roughly 14 to 19 year olds
Mature 17+ - It really should be Mature 18+ anything rated this cant be played by anyone under 18 or be bought by anyone under 18. Only 18 and over can play or buy this game.

Adults Only 18+ - IE might have alot of Porn, nudity, very heavy on Blood gore and such.

Then you have RP - Rating Pending
then you have RP Likely Mature 17+ - Again more like Mature 18+ Rating Pending.
Just Games that have Not been fully Rated

As For Summer in Mara I would give it at least a E rating For everyone but more suited for anyone over 6 years old just due to you have to read alot in game and follow clues and quests. But if a Parent was to Help and play with them and read the stuff out to them and help with clues and quests then I think its possible for a 4 or 5 year old to play with maybe some difficulty.

Thinking back on the original question, Piperbird makes a good point. Mara includes some very long-term quests which you cannot fulfil for many hours of gameplay after you're given them. A young child may have forgotten what they are by the time the resolution presents itself.

By the way, the same publisher has another game

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1623700/Deiland_Pocket_Planet/

That game is similar to Mara (though I find it a lot less fun, and I'm not sure why). That game does feature (light, easy) combat. You have to be able to time your moves and react to what the attacker does. I would not recommend it for someone who has trouble with the controls.
