Any trick to get playable lighting back instead of crappy flashlight?
So I just found out there's now a mandatory flashlight mode. I find it tedious, hard on the eyes, and so frustrating that it takes both the scares and the fun away. I'm giving up on the game altogether because sneaking around is the whole experience, and in this ridiculous update I just feel like a walking lighthouse shining in my own face. If Granny is so blind that she can't see the industrial-strength spotlight I'm holding in the closet, why do I need to hide from her in the first place rather than stay still anyway? I get the appeal for hardcore low-visibility-horror enthusiasts, but forcing this weird mode on players was a silly mistake.

Is there any way to remove this feature, downgrade, or switch it off? Any files I could tweak? Any plans to roll out a fix? Bright version was a thing before, and afaik you can even choose between flashlight or bright on mobile, so I'm hoping it's still in there somewhere. Thanks for any ideas you can suggest (and for bearing with my disappointed rant).

The reason it isn't available on the PC version is because the port only uses realtime dynamic lighting. The mobile version uses baked lightmaps and Darker mode just applies a black fog throughout the house.

The second game's PC port has an option to enable or disable Darker mode, but it isn't the same as the mobile version's lighting. When Darker mode is disabled, the player casts a sphere of light around them, and when Darker mode is enabled, it uses the flashlight mechanic from the first game.

It is very unlikely that this will be ported back to the first game, though, since they don't get updated often. Technically, the PC port is actually missing a few updates. (v1.2 is equivalent to mobile version 1.7, but mobile is on v1.7.3)

There are no secret settings to play the game without the flashlight. I have some experience with modding the game and I could try to hack together something that brings over the non-Darker lighting from the second game, if you're interested. Apart from that, there isn't much to be done.

Thanks for the explanation, I had no idea. Actually I thought the PC version used to also have ambient lighting, in older youtube vids? Did they change the way it runs or am I just misunderstanding something?

I'm really glad you clarified for the lighting mechanics (and it's a shame they don't update it anymore, it's still the og game after all). If you're up for modding Granny and bringing back default vision, it would honestly be awesome! I'm definitely interested!

this is super rude for him to want more mobile players than PC players which sucks a lot.
mobile you don't have a lot of room to slide your finger around on PC you have so much room.
