Amiga music?
Where is the Amiga music? The developers clearly had some issue with the original music. They picked the worst possible version (the PC midi files -- erhg)! And they described it as "8-bit mode" -- even though Flashback is a 16-bit game -- odd.

Delphine Software (the original developers) were actually a music studio. Their games had AMAZING music for the time on the Amiga, but instead of it being included, it's been oddly butchered. Argh :(

And the cutscenes used POLYGONS (yes really), which means they could have been perfectly upscaled (like Another World Remastered) without need for any filters. For some reason the cutscenes are actually stretched AND distorted. Sigh :(

Almost a perfect remaster! Almost.

It is sad about the music!

Maybe the source for the cutscenes was lost

No, there's a website which has upscaled the scenes in browser. It could have easily been done in game:

Not even that. The music sounds rather off compared to that too.

It's from an earlier console version, I think. Genesis maybe? It's SO much worse than the Amiga version is makes me sad :(

Yup. They chose Genesis or SNES audio, instead of Amiga which was the best of course for music and sound effects. Very disappointing.
Also the main menu screen and in-game dialogue colors come from the consoles versions...

BTW, on expanded Amiga and PC I could zoom-in+mouse, and select auto-zoom during fights... They removed these options?

...and other languages except Eng are Google Translated VERY badly!

There is also a bug with BLOOM option always ON when you launch the game, even if you disabled it last time (you have to re-enable and disable it again every time)!

Cheap port starting from consoles versions IMHO.

It's such a shame. I hate it with the Genesis music and stretched cutscenes. It's a sin for a such an amazing game. And rewind feature is great, though. So annoying!

I agree, stretched cutscenes (PAL<>NTSC conversion problem) look bad :(
Here is an interview with Paul, a pity he didn't accomplish a perfect Remaster for his old creation...

Never understood why the devs have chosen this sound format. It wasn't even the standard back in those days. FB became popular on PCs, not Amiga. Was it so difficult just to port SB16 or MT32 versions? The shot sound is particularly horrible. And, also there's no option to see the CD version cutscenes. Going back to my DosBox version...

I think Flashback was bigger on the Amiga than PC. The Amiga was a far more popular gaming platform back then, at least in Europe where this game was developed. I also think the PC music is what was included in this release? The Amiga sound was amazing...

I don't believe it's the Genesis/Mega Drive version of audio, I own the original cart on MD and am playing it atm and the SFX & BGM is so much better than this version. Not quite sure what's going on.

It's definitely not the MD version of the music, which has a steller music score. I'm a big fan of the Amiga too, but the MD version is actually the best one. Hands down.

MD and Amiga had similar score but Amiga music was by far the best of all of course. There is no doubt about it. Amiga was capable to play real samples at a decent frequency. Hear yourself the difference:

So why did the developers give us the worst version? :,(
DjDeathrow Mar 20, 2021 @ 10:14am
Dunno, as a MD player in childhood, never eard that version, and frankly it's clearly the worst we got on pc

I agree. The Amiga music and sound effects were much better.
However, the description "8-bit" would be correct for the Amiga music. It's sound chip produced 8-bit output. It doesn't really apply to midi files though, as their samples depend on the sound card, so they're not at a fixed rate.

The code (on the Amiga) would have been 32-bit.
