as far as I know
owner and copyright holder of Paragon is Epic Games.
Epic Games decided Paragon to shut down because they wanted to focus more on Fortnite.
In this decision, they decided to give the assets of Paragon for free for private and commercial use. Game Studios can use the assets for free to develop their own games only IF they are using Epic Games' game engine Unreal Engine.
The games I know that use the assets are:
-The First Descendant
-Fault: Elder Orb
-Paragon: The Overprime
-Predecessor
-and there are some more games in development
You cannot copyright Paragon's assets because the assets are part of Unreal Engine and the owner is Epic Games. Media websites are hyperbolic sometimes and Overprime became NOT officially Paragon. Overprime probably are taking this name to get the attention of old players and the name is a marketing tool for free.
I don't know about trademarks of "Paragon", but at the end it's just a name and does not represent the quality of the game.
We all know which game will take the crown at the end ;-)
Work much less? Overprime have a massive team and a publisher that makes over 500 million a year lmao
They have way more resources put into them
That's why i said maybe they will try to make a deal to copyright the game and the heroes so no one can use them to become a main game not just a fan made game with Epic Games assets to make it a legit Paragon game, and if u go to there site even the heroes names is the same as the one in Paragon.

Yeah they only have the same names because they realised their original names sucked, who the ♥♥♥♥ wants Steel to be called Scott? lmao
It was a game that was trying to be it's own thing and slowly they are just trying to skin it as Paragon but keep the weird brawler feel to the game
It's not Paragon just because you slap a name on it, Predecessor also has the original Paragon names for heroes, doesn't change the fact it isn't Paragon
I've read that the hardcore fans seem to be tilting towards Predecessor as being the true follow up to Paragon - and my god do we need a new ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moba now - but not having indication of when and if this will ever release has me gravitating heavily towards PtOP; just bcause they atleast can push a game out.
That's a really weird reason to prefer one over the other, Pred is coming out this year, Overprime doesn't actually know when it's fully releasing but they have a final test date... so what? lol
Having a date doesn't make a difference when overprimes combat and gameplay feels janky unless they have magically fixed all the issues since the last test, which i highly doubt because its felt janky since the first test
Basically, I think the first game to release will be the one that sticks around.
They are completely different games tbh, you'd end up with some weird hybrid
I'm just waiting for pred, not a fan of OP
