If you want to play the game in its intended view-type (16:9) there is an alternative for "Keep aspect ratio". You can play it in full ultra wide but there might be some bugs and stuff since it renders a really wide shot :)
// Angry Demon Studio
There are two options at the moment for Ultra-wide usage for Apsulov: End of Gods:
- You can play the game with "Keep aspect ratio" which adds black bars to the sides to keep the 16:9 ratio.
- You can play the game using ultra-wide resolution. This will work a little awkwardly with the FOV.
We are going to look into this matter as soon as possible (Within a week or two).
Thank you for your patience // Angry Demon Studio
So you know what I mean, here are some example images from another game:
'Maintain' aspect ratio (e.g. "Keep Aspect Ratio" on in Apsulov: End of Gods): https://pcgamingwiki.ams3.digitaloceanspaces.com/2/20/Scaling_preserve_full_image_anamorphic.png
'Expand' aspect ratio: https://pcgamingwiki.ams3.digitaloceanspaces.com/1/12/Scaling_preserve_image_aspect_hor%2B.png
'Crop' aspect ratio: https://pcgamingwiki.ams3.digitaloceanspaces.com/5/53/Scaling_preserve_aspect_only_vert-.png
I have stuck to ultrawide since 2014 and will never go back to 16:9. Sadly the game is vert-, meaning that any 16:9 resolution will show more stuff above and at the bottom compared to a wider aspect ratio (21:9 or, in your case, 32:9).
Go to (your username)\AppData\Local\Unforgiving\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
Find Engine.ini and add this lines:
[/script/engine.localplayer]
AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV
Navigate to the game folder and find the same files (any .ini with engine in its name). Correct the line with YFOV where it says XFOV and add it where it is not (but modifying the file in appdata should be enough).
You will have a much wider fov. For me, better too high fov than too low. I just started the game, but this 'trick' can have side effects in a game: item examination messed up (objects too far or too small or out of focus), documents reading (same reason), cutscenes rendered wrong. If I encounter any problem I guess the only option is to play in 16:9.
When the game console cannot be enabled and the game changes FOV a lot throughout the story, it is difficult to edit manually the FOV. Also with UE4 many times (like in this case) the .ini files are a pain to edit to fix these things, mostly we have more luck by hex editing the .exe files.....
Our game is called Project_C in your appdata BTW and not Apsulov (an old remnant from production). When i tried this here i only wrote the line in appdata and the changed the xfov to Yfov in the basengine.ini file in the instalation engine folder (you know steamapps > common apsulov end of gods > engine) This is a fix as he sais without using a hex editor and it can be hard to manually fix set the FOV cuse its set multiple times during gameplay.
A BIG word of caution though here. The reason we dont want to add a FOV slider is cuse our FPS cutscenes are made in the set FOV and setting it higher will reveal things that are not meant to be seen and will have things that look buggy pop in at times. This might also cuse other problem we are not aware of that might hinder or break progression, game crashes and other simlliar issues. (We have to say this ofc cuse we cant garantee everything will work well) You do this all at your own volition. That said i hope this can help you to a better experiance in the long run =P.
