mega man battle network, yes, imagine that but improved. that's what this is.

Yes and no. Yes as in the gameplay on paper is similair. But no not really, the difficulty starts harder than the hardest MMBN fights, and the attacks are much less telegraphed than they were in mmbn

all much needed improvements for the longevity of the MMBN series, XD.

If it was difficult for the right reasons sure - but difficulty in memorisation, insane reaction speeds and other cheap mechanics doesn't really improve on MMBN at all

I honestly thought mmbn was harder... at least without all the recover/invince/aura/area grab chips hahaha. Especially Serenade and Bass!

The battle system is just like MMBN, though its a rogulike like Slay the Spire. But the fights are like MMBN.

Though the game is definetly harder than the single player in MMBN barring maybe the most crazy bonus bosses. I dont think its cheap, but it can be frustrating. If the demo is up you could try that, if you're not sure you could just buy it and return it after an 1-2 hours if you dont like it

I can't say for sure yet which is ultimately harder at the end, but MMBN gives you a nice gentle difficulty curve where you fight simpler and slower enemies before their harder palette swaps show up, while OSFE feels like I've been thrown headfirst into the postgame Undernet before I'm ready.

Lol! I was pretty bad at MMBN and managed to beat it. This is waaay harder. The only exception I guess may be the earlier games, especially the secret areas in those games. But for the most part the main story of MMBN is relatively easy.

It's the same style as MMBN but now it's on a 4x4 grid. The difficulty is a bit harder than most post-game contents in MMBN. Bosses in OSFE can give you the adrenaline rush you once had when fighting Bass.

Well perhaps if you indeed purposfully did not use the tools given to you. By that point in the game you would have all those goodies and would have no reason to not use them besides making it harder for yourself. Perhaps if you know perfectly how to play OSfE already (which you do) it may become easier for you. But generally everything was properly telegraphed, and it not being a roguelite made it a heck of a lot easier

Usually would just use PAs and combos to melt bosses in seconds. Bosses in OsfE are damage sponges that blink around way faster in a larger area. Also getting trapped in broken panels and having them unload damage on you sucks, i wish there was some Airshoes type Artifact.
There is, but it's rare. I've only ever seen it once so far.

It may look similar, but it is very different from MMBN. MMBN's battles are focused more on strategy and this game is focused more on action. There are no rounds where time is frozen and you can plan ahead your next few attacks, you have a buffer of upcoming spells and two to call upon and you never get much time to stop and think. You don't build a deck, you gather a deck; you select spells after each round and your deck always has all the spells in your library. It's not an RPG, it's a gauntlet runner; there are no missions/chapters and not nearly as much story. The battle stage and spells/chips are quite similar and clearly inspired by MMBN (there is even lifesword verbatim), but this game is too fundamentally different for me to say that it is similar to MMBN.

It plays similarly but you don't pause to select a new set of chips every few seconds and everything moves way faster. It's kind of like a super mario world romhack difficultywise.
