Character Unlock Guide?

Anyone know how to get new characters?

To unlock the Shopkeeper, you have to defeat her. ( I had the easiest time just fighting her over and over again in the first zone until I got good; her HP scales faster than your damage is likely to. )

For the rest, you'll naturally unlock them over time, or you can unlock them by defeating them in the third zone or later.

...I think that's how it all works, anyway.

Pretty much, 3rd+ zone might be the most reliable.
Shopkeeper is certainly shopkeeper... though going in later zones can help if you are going for a build you are good with to face her.

When you say "defeating them"... can I spare them or I need to kill them ? ;_;

Pretty sure sparing them is okay to still unlock. I wasn't entirely aware of this unlock condition before reading all this so maybe I'm wrong, but I generally spare and I've got 4 characters unlocked already.

I was able to unlock the gunner and the turret lady by sparing them. Gonna go for shopkeeper tomorrow.

Not sure on Shopkeeper if you can still kill to get her, but for the rest you're supposed to spare them.

I thought there was somehting up with that allowing me to leave hting, but I'm afraid I killed every person I met, and when my run ended ( at my demise ) I unlocked an icey girl ( she looks liek she used ice, didn't really stick around to see specifics )

for some context, I started out going ot arctic? and went there two mroe times.
but I always killed the person at the end as a boss fight.

How did you even approach this fight? Her diamond move attacks so incredibly fast even with Chrono Saffron I can't see a pattern that would allow me to dodge it. Everything the shopkeeper throws at you is stupidly powerful

The first run I got to the fifth area, I unlocked four characters and a costume out of nowhere.

Yeah you can now unlock them over level ups if you don't spare them beforehand... aside from Shopkeeper I think.

If you're talking about the X-shaped one, just calmly wait until you're about to get hit and then move forward. If it's the one where she scatters them all over, I found moving in a small square in the center to be a mostly effective way to dodge it.

i got the Shopkeeper with some cheese. i got Soul Link and she did her pattern where she locks you in and then charges up a huge attack. since she hit like 6 tiles with 666 damage, she instagibbed herself and i was able to get her like that.

I accidentally murdered two bosses in stage 5 and 6 and got them, I think you unlock them either way past or on stage 3.
