Help with the Coke Furnace please

So I have figured out how to remove and replace the cage in the furnace so emptying the coke is easy, but how do you put coal into the cage? So far the only way I have made coke is by buying a box of coal and throwing it in the furnace with the cage outside, quickly close the door, then put cage back into the furnace with the door closed. Odd I know but it works.

However, I can not figure out how to turn loose coal I find in the mines into coke. I am unable to place the coal in the furnace in any way, nor can I place it in the cage. I have got it to glitch through the cage, but it promptly flies out once I place it in the furnace. Nothing I try works.

How do you put the mined coal into the furnace to make coke?

you can't use the coke furnace with mined coal. It only works with coal boxes.

Well that sucks. I take it mined coal just becomes useful for the smelter then.

I have a different problem ... a box of coal is now stuck under coke furnace as I didn't know where it was going to appear and I can't select it ...

You can some times use the thermometer probe to hit stuff by pressing B. I've used that to get things unstuck before.

That or the cage in the furnace. Easier to see what your doing.
