I personally think the metal ingot on anvil cools down way too quick.....
I'm no blacksmith in real life, evidently, although i would presume you'd have more time hammering something that's extremely hot

only first 2-3 metals you need to heat and forge a couple of times, the others only one time

Well, the same thing goes otherway around as well. It takes way longer time to get such big piece hot enough to be able to start forge it, but one maybe wouldnt want to sit for that long in a game and wait for it to be hot.

It is part of the way of the artisan to learn to manage time, for instance when an order arrive, put your ingot inside the furnace and do the rest, like fitting the handle and putting the crystal on the magic table, if it is something like mithrill and elandoor, requiring more time, you can start to look to the next order and even start it while your metal is reaching temperature.
Gold has a range of work between 800 and 900 degrees. A pain in the ass, but it's worth tons of money and reputatuion. If it would be too easy, wouldn't be funny. I'm proud i can build any sword in the game without big problems and i have little solutions for every little challenge, it's the Artisan Way :)

as I've observed many places, it would be TOLERABLE in VR. mouse and keyboard, I'm probably not alone in getting increasingly annoyed as we hardly seem to get any proper work done before we got to re-heat it.

I have done blacksmithing, as a hobby and was taught at a workshop. The heating and cooling time depend on the size of the piece of metal. Meaning a large ingot will take a long time to heat up and cool slowly. But as you work the metal it gets thinner, heading up fast and cooling during forging really quickly. For steel, forging say a knife you really only have a few good hits before its too cold to work. From my experience the cool down time is accurate, the heat up time is unrealistically slow, at least for the ingot
