What about Tempering colours and annealing ?
Have trained as a basic blacksmith for 2 years and have been looking for a half decent blacksmith game and yours i like so far. How ever and iam sorry to be nit picky but i could say straight away their are a few steps missing in the forge process that could be added in.

First off the bat Annealing is the first step to making the steel ready for use in the forge ( Annealing involves heating steel to a specified temperature and then cooling at a very slow and controlled rate) the way we did this was leaving the steel in ash over night and then used it in the forge the following morning, why this is done is to change the crystal structure in the steel essentially making the steel malleable or soft, so as not prone to cracks or imperfections.

Secondly Tempering. After you shape the steel the last step is Tempering, this means watching very closely the Tempering rainbow like colours appear and slowly disappear as the heat leaves the steel, and to capture the right colour on your sword, knife,Scissors what ever sharp edge one wants to make, and if it is one of these options you are making for example, straw yellow is the colour you need, when the desired colour is found to be "exactly" on the edge you want then the sword is dipped in oil so as to hold that colour. When the sword is heated in such a way youal see all the tempering colours of the rainbow appear before your very eyes and as a blacksmith will know its at this point he only has one shot, one chance to get the exact colour needed, if he gets it wrong as in the wrong colour or he was to fast or to slow to get the desired colour the sword knife or what ever it is,is shot and is considered no good for anything except maybe as an ornament for looks or show. This would be amazing to see the tempering colours appear in game if you guys can pull it off and a feature that needs to be in, any blacksmith or person would love to see the tempering rainbow effect.

Thirdly why a Thermometer ? we were always taught to see the colours in the steel and know that is the colour needed and also know what Temperature the steel is at that colour. i recon lose the Thermometer and have an in game colour chart with all the colours that will appear and what Temperature thoughs colour's will be. here is a link to a colour chart with all the colours and Temperatures - https://www.pinterest.nz/pin/438819557417488957/?autologin=true.

Black Smithing for the most part is a lot of highly educated guess work (for want of a better pharse) and its this guess work that gives a BlackSmith his name, as no one finished weapon or tool will ever be the same as the next and in doing so gives the BlackSmith a unique quality that only he can give and can not be taught its only learned by each individual, i understand that your game will never be exactly like the real thing, all iam saying is that the tempering colour is a quintessential aspect of blacksmithing that i feel need's to be added in and losing the Thermometer will help in getting that guess work in and make it easier on the individual to place items in the forge.
Thanks for taking the time to read this iam not complaining about your game just giving constructive criticism and a couple of suggestion's to a game i think is already very close to being a good BlackSmith game, and for you BlackSmiths out their please correct me if iam wrong about anything iv said, iam pretty sure most of what i said is correct but like iv said iv only trained in basic blacksmithing, for example iam not sure on forge welding for Damascus or things of that nature.

Thanks for your suggestions, it is exciting to read when the real blacksmith talks about our game. We are planning to add tempering in the game but a simple variation. About thermometer: well people need it to measure temperature, we have a color system, but also we have many different metals so it will be to difficult without a thermometer to not overheat the metal. But you can handle it only watching colors.

Thats great to hear you guys plan on adding in a tempering rainbow affect, this would really add life into the in-game-steel making it look like the real thing. iam actually quite excited to see what you guys do in the future.
